Your Quick Guide to the 2019 Golden Globe Awards

Your-Quick-Guide-to-the-2019-Golden-Globe-Awards

The Golden Globe Awards are all about style and achievement. Usually, you hear all about the big celebrity award shows months in advance and take to Instagram on the big event days to see everyone’s final looks. Well, the Golden Globe Awards really snuck up on us this year. Not much was said about it before the big event, and, suddenly, it’s already behind us.

So, for those who missed it, here’s a quick guide 2019 Golden Globe Awards.

The event was hosted by Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg who played it surprisingly safe last night. Unlike other hosts who have made many controversial jokes, they were both very careful. As a community, we are still very much about diversity and inclusion, so the awards were still focusing on that- making jokes about diversity and nominating a more diverse range of people.

Sandra Oh became the first Asian American woman to win a second golden globe when she won for Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Series, Drama. Her first win came from her portrayal of the role Cristina Yang on Grey’s Anatomy in 2006. Her parents and their enthusiasm for her really stole the show.

The 2019 Golden Globes also showed that there is still a lot of political unrest. Christian Bale won Best Actor in a Musical/Comedy for his portrayal of Vice President Dick Cheney in Vice. Among his family and film crew, he thanked “Satan, for the inspiration..” for his win. There’s definitely a political commentary going on there.

Glenn Close won Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama and didn’t expect it, as many expected Lady Gaga to win. Glenn’s face showed how taken aback she was by her win.

Finally, Dick Van Dyke proved that age is just a number. At 93 years old, he stole the show and was probably the best presenter of the night.

And now, the reason you’re here. Find below the highlights of the award winners from the 2019 golden globe awards.
