Malorie Mackey is an actress and model who grew up in Richmond, Virginia. Since working in Los Angeles from 2010 onward, she has accumulated over 35 acting credits on a variety of projects. Malorie also spent years as a professional model, primarily for Bench Warmer Trading Cards. With the release of her upcoming television show entitled Weird World Adventures, in which Malorie travels the world showcasing the most unusual of places, we have spoken with her about the stigma of being known as a glamour model and the two sides to her personality.

Malorie, in regards to fashion, many know you from the modeling world. But your main focus has always been acting, and you’ve accumulated many acting credits throughout your career. Can you tell us about your newest endeavors in the acting world before we discuss your life in fashion and modeling?

Yes, acting has always been my true passion since I was young. I started in the theatre at 13 years old and got my degree in theatre performance before moving out to Los Angeles. While I’ve been in countless indie films and series throughout the years, perhaps, my favorite part of my career was getting hand-picked by Andrew Lloyd Webber and featured in his “Musicals in Isolation” competition during the pandemic in 2020. I created a video singing ‘Macavity’ from Cats, and Andrew Lloyd Webber, himself, picked and shared it on his social platforms as part of his ongoing series. That was seriously a dream come true.

And your new endeavors have you expanding your resume into the world of hosting with Weird World Adventures. Can you tell us a bit about that?

I’ve had experience as an on-camera host for many years, but this is the first time that passion has come to life for something of my own. I feel like Weird World Adventures is my public transition from model to weirdo as I get to just be myself on camera and introduce the world to the strangest and most unbelievable places our weird world has to offer. It’s silly, eerie, and enlightening all at the same time, and it’s so refreshing to get to let my weirdness shine on camera.

Speaking about your distinct personality, we were talking prior to this interview about how you have two dual personalities that seem to clash with each other. Can you elaborate on that?

Well, I guess as a Gemini, it would only make sense that I have two different and very distinct personality types. There’s this chic fashionista who loves wearing expressive vintage styles, and then there’s this adventurous, ready-to-get-dirty explorer who crawls on the ground under giant spider webs to tag penguin nests. I love them both, but people would look at me one day and then look at me another and wonder how I’m even the same person at all. But that’s the funny thing about life- we can all have strong personality traits, and they can contrast with each other at times, and that’s OK. That’s what makes us uniquely ourselves. And I think that works with what I’m doing with my show. I get to dress like an explorer and get dirty on camera and then clean up really nice for our release parties and events for the show and show off my inner fashionista.

Does your past experience as a model tie together with your love of fashion?

Not exactly. While I did get to model some designs, I was more of a glamour model, which means I was there to show off my hair, makeup, and overall look rather than the clothing or items I was wearing. I didn’t get to express myself much through my fashion, though I always love to do so at red carpets now.

You see, the thing about being a glamour model is that people make a lot of assumptions (or judgements if you will) about you. People immediately think I’m prissy and that I like rich men and expensive things. I’m actually a huge weirdo and a nerd at heart, so whenever we would be signing autographs with Bench Warmer Cards at San Diego Comic Con, I would feel at home with my people though people would look at me and think I was out of my element. I connected with many of my fans on a real level because a lot of us had a shared love of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. They’d ask me about Buffy all the time because they knew I’d go off on these geeky tangents I couldn’t turn off.

And even now, as an adventurer, people see me dress really fashionable one day and don’t think I have it in me to climb a mountain and get super dirty. When, in reality, I can do it all- I just also love certain elements of fashion.

What’s your favorite type of fashion to wear?

My recent re-watch of Bewitched has actually put me down this path towards LOVING vintage clothing. I just can’t get enough of Samantha Stephen’s style. Specifically, she has these gorgeous nightgowns that she wears in the beginning of the show, and after a long night researching down the rabbit hole, I found that they came from a boutique designer in Beverly Hills named Lucie Ann. So, long story short, I now have two different Lucie Ann sets in two different colors plus a wide variety of dresses from the 1960s. Samantha has become my style icon, and I’m just thrilled about it. So, I guess what I’m trying to say is that vintage fashion has become my absolutely favorite type of fashion to wear. I, specifically, love these chic, delicate pieces from the 50s and the loud, more fun pieces that came from the 60s. There was this level of quality and style I find in these vintage pieces that is harder to come by in today’s fashion scene.
