Walk into any jewelry counter and ask three different salespeople which karat of gold you should buy, and you’ll likely get three different answers. Some will push you toward 18K because it “sounds more luxurious.” Others will steer you toward 10K because it’s cheaper. Neither is wrong, exactly, but for jewelry you actually intend to wear every day, the answer that most working jewelers land on, once you cut through the marketing, is 14K.
