I’m sure there are a few things you could name about Ludwig van Beethoven off the top of your head: He’s one of the most famous composers of all time. He went deaf. His Symphony Number 9 is played in many movies and television shows… but there is so much more to Beethoven than you realize. We were lucky enough to visit Bonn, Germany this past month to celebrate Beethoven’s 250^th anniversary. On this trip, we learned about who Beethoven was as a person and how his environment and the political turmoil of his time affected him and his music.

It’s Beethoven 2020! What does that mean? Well, this year marks the 250^th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s birth. Beethoven, one of the most famous composers of all time, was born 250 years ago in Bonn, Germany. Unfortunately, many people do not associate Beethoven with Bonn, nor do they even know he is from there because Beethoven wrote his most well-known symphonies in Vienna; so, that’s where people tend to associate Beethoven with.
