Miu Miu’s First Fragrance Finally Out!
We mentioned something about the newest Miu Miu fragrance being shown off during the Miu Miu resort 2016 collection. What we did not make mention of was the fact that this is in fact the first piece if such being introduced to fans of the brand everywhere, a debut worth every penny spent in order to attend the event. When will sales begin however? Let us just say that we don’t have too long of a wait ahead of us, with August 2015 bringing with it the first fragrance by Miu Miu, one that has been called unique, youthful and sophisticated with bright colors and a brighter spirit. Miuccia Prada has been doing incredible work of late, from her couture collections to the ready to wear. It was only to be expected that perfume would follow suit, in packaging that is intriguing to say the least, with its crystal faceted body and big red sphere at the top. She tried to bring in the provocative, while keeping the spirit of the bottle as attractive as can be. It is a rather sweet flacon that we would love to see on our dressers anytime soon.
What exactly does the Miu Miu perfume smell like? Since it was Danielle Roche Andrier brought in to pull together the very first Miu Miu fragrance composition, a perfumer known for her creations for the houses of Prada, Bvlgari, Marni, Bottega Veneta, etc., we know that it will be something rather wonderful. Andrier has given a slight explanation already, mentioning the focus on the lily of the valley flowers, while working in notes of jasmine, rose and something greener in the form of an active ingredient created by Givaudan called akigalawood; this latter uses the scents of patchouli, notes of pepper and the gentle woody aromas of oud wood. It is all about how the scents begin and how they end, moving from a fresh and floral waft to the warmer and woodsier presence. It is almost as if you are wearing 2 different perfumes during your day!
If you are curious about akigalawood, it is literally a note of patchouli oil, with pepper and wood characteristics, created in Givaudan, a Swiss manufacturer of flavourings and fragrances. As of 2008, it is the world’s largest company in the industry it appears.
The actual flacon is inspired by the luxurious Miu Miu matelassé leather bags, appearing in turquoise with a big red plastic disk for a stopper. There will be the option of picking from 30, 50 and 100 mL Eau de Perfum bottles, along with their body care products – think shower gel, body lotion and body cream. These will become available only in Harrod’s come August, with Stacy Martin as the face of the fragrance. Marcusu and Bergdorf will host the sales from September to December 2015. We all love Miu Miu dearly and are beyond excited to think that we could own a small piece of the brand, one of the only pieces that is more or less reachable to the general public without a few thousand to spare on a dress.
