The Winter Trend of Bustier Tops and Dresses
We have always been of the opinion that bustier tops and dresses are designed exclusively for summer wear and they do convey lots of sexiness in them. The latest fall/ winter 2014-2015 fashion trends prove completely the opposite suggesting wearing bustier tops and dresses in winter too and they do look quite modest and even kind of reserved in this case. Since no one would be apt to show off lots of skin in the middle of winter, you just need to pick the correct jumper to layer your bustier top with. Below, we present some of the coolest ways of wearing bustier tops in winter according to some of the best fashion shows of famous fashion houses!
You probably have never thought of layering a bustier top or a dress, which is actually a smart way of creating modern, futuristic and standout looks for the cold season. The idea is to find the best “lower layer” for it, which is advised to be as thin as possible. Skin-tight and see-through long-sleeved tops can also be ideal matches. However, what Marni’s fall 2014 show taught us is that little bustier tops with peplum details can look extremely cute on the backdrop of a chunky knitted sweater in a contrasting color. Think khaki on gray, for instance, and your look will be a complete success. On the other hand, absolutely cute is the winter bustier top suggestion from Viktor & Rolf, in case of which you don’t need to worry about picking the most matching sweater to wear your top with, since this is an imitation of layering, a ready-made layered bustier top using pastel blue and gray shades.
A warm and thin turtleneck is another great piece you can layer your winter bustier top with and a great example can be Kenzo’s look, where a khaki toned bustier top with a lovely peplum design looks quite flirty in combination with the simplest black turtleneck. You are also welcome to create lots of texture, experimenting with such contrasting combinations as leather with cashmere, silk with jersey, or just picking slightly oversized pieces and matching them with more form-fitting ones. The latter is what Marc by Marc Jacobs gave preference to, topping a simple black sweater with a short-sleeved shirt, which in its turn is topped with a classy gray bustier top. Pretty effective, huh?
The winter trends aren’t just about bustier tops, but also bustier dresses, which in their turn can be layered using the same principles. For instance, the MM6 Maison Martin Margiela fall 2014 runway show presented a look featuring a brownish bustier dress worn over a classic white shirt. It created kind of a sloppy look, but this was actually the purpose: a little relaxed and queer always looks cool. Completely elegant and classy is the look presented by Philosophy by Natalie Ratabesi, in case of which we find a skin-tight sweater worn underneath a shimmering glam bustier dress. This look proves that you can wear winter bustier dresses to parties as well!
We always love designers’ modern takes on classic fashion pieces, and the latest trend of winter bustier tops and dresses is no exception.
