Alexander Wang Teams Up With The Weeknd On a Capsule Collection
With the grungy edge Alexander Wang brings to the world of fashion, the designer’s collaboration with singer/songwriter The Weeknd isn’t too surprising. WANGXO is the name of the ensuing capsule collection, and we love the way it sounds.
This whole collaboration came about when Wang hinted at a possible collaboration on Tuesday, before following up with an actual plan the next day. It seems he was just testing the waters that first night, to see how the public would respond and to get us riled up with the possibility, and the real reveal came Wednesday. The edgy designer will be exclusively supplying the artist’s apparel for his Madness tour that began also on Tuesday night.
For the remainder of the tour, The Weeknd will be dressed in vests and trousers from Wang while performing. There hasn’t been anything said, but if all goes well with this, there’s no doubt we’ll also be seeing these looks when the artist performs at the impending Victoria’s Secret fashion show. This would be even better if Bella Hadid, The Weeknd’s girlfriend, was walking in the show this year (there’s still time, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed until the last moment!).
But the collaboration needed to move a step further. A vest itself isn’t enough of an outfit for a performer, so Wang is also making a capsule collection in collaboration with XO, the apparel brand of the Canadian artist.
The collection itself will be focusing on apparel using a graphic XO logo print, with garments that are a staple for The Weeknd, as well as many other street-fashionisers of today, like hoodies, bandanas, T-shirts, and high-top sneakers. At least the idea for the clothes is right up Hadid’s alley as far as streetwear, so it would be surprising if the model isn’t seen wearing the looks as soon as they are released. This is the ideal situation for any celebrity couple – being in a relationship with someone whose brand fits perfectly with your daily style!
All around, this completes any outfit that could have begun with a vest and pants for the singer’s Madness tour, and is the marking of a great casual outfit for anyone else in the world. We don’t know exactly how the designs will look yet, but with Alexander Wang’s clear design aesthetic, we know we’re in for a great product. The WANGXO collection will become available later this month online and in Alexander Wang stores. While it isn’t too long until the collection is released, we are sure the brief wait will be worth it.
