Who is David Bowie? David Robert Jones, known to the world as the English singer and songwriter David Bowie, was a multi-instrumentalist, a record producer, an arranger, painter and actor, but most important of all, he died but two days ago at the barely past retirement age of 69, after months of battling cancer. He had been going at it for 18 months it appears, though with the support of his family around, it is seen as a more or less peaceful passing. The world is weeping, the shockwaves are spreading and few truly understand why a man so you, a truly great man so young, had to go so soon.
We have loved his music for decades now, with him appearing on the scene in the 1960s and blowing us all away in the ’70s and ’80s. Oh how we love the “Ashes to Ashes’ single, while his collaboration with Queen in 1981 truly made us happy. He was, without a doubt, one of the most influential musicians of his era, and it appears his death will be remembered all too keenly with the final release, a parting gift of sorts, called “Lazarus’ for his fans. While so many weep though, there are those who are more than willing to create some sort of tribute in honor of the great man.
From Conan O’Brien’s remembrances of Bowie’s Late Night visits to Burberry‘s incorporation of Bowie’s singles from the last years in its male-centric Fashion Week show through London Collections Men, the musician was more than remembered and those who had yet to hear of him immediately became ardent fans, albeit too late. Guest arrivals during the show were sound tracked to a song from the 2013 album, called “Where Are We Now?’ while after the show, guests were played out with Bowie’s “Oh! You Pretty Things.’
It was beyond sweet and perfectly on track, since there is no greater honor than to be hailed great after one’s passing from this world. Those related to him, from his wife to his children, will forever be proud of the man David Bowie was and all that he accomplished in his lifetime. At least we can say that the man lived his life to the fullest and we are hoping he scratched off quite a few items from his bucket list in the last years especially.
The best parts from the Burberry men’s fall 2016 show itself were all the subtle signs pointing to Bowie, and the one really not to subtle version where a model appeared with “Bo’ and “Wie’ written on the palms. The collection itself features glam-rock elements of sequin addition to jackets and trousers, while one model had glitter around the eyes to go with the “crying tears of glitter’ song lyrics.
It was beautiful in every way and we have to really thank Burberry for incorporating so much of Bowie into its runway presentation, as it would have meant a lot to the man as well. At the moment, we can merely look on and enjoy the sentiments while finishing up another box of tissues as we listen to his incredible tracks.

In the era of technology, anything is possible. Every single field in our lives is becoming more connected to the world of technology in ways we don’t even know it. Fashion labels are making strong efforts to use the best of it, to make their products more available and alluring for customers. Since presenting a campaign the old-fashioned way is not fun anymore, high-end brands are constantly looking for a way to leave a strong impression. Olivier Rousteing from Balmain decided to embrace the latest innovations in digital technology for his Pre-Fall 2018 ads.
The Council of Fashion Designers of America announced that Naomi Campbell will receive the Fashion Icon Award this year. The long-legged gazelle is joining the club of names such as Rihanna, Pharrell Williams, Beyoncé, Kate Moss, David Bowie, Iman, Lady Gaga and more. The ceremony will take place at the Brooklyn Museum on June 4. For the first time ever, the event will have a female host. The talented actress/director Issa Rae will have the honors to lead the evening in front of the star-studded guest list.
“It is truly an honor to be recognized by the CFDA with this year’s Fashion Icon Award. Being from London, my personal style has always been tremendously influenced by both the dynamic, ever-changing nature of street culture and the music scene. I grew up in this industry and I’m forever grateful to the iconic American fashion designers who have supported me and celebrated me throughout my career.’- Campbell stated.
Words are not enough to explain all of Naomi’s accomplishments in the fashion industry. The term iconic barely does her justice. Campbell is the first black woman to pose on the covers of Time magazine and Vogue France. She has fronted so many other covers, that it’s hard to keep track. The supermodel was a close friend and muse to the late legendary designer Azzedine Ala‚Äö√†√∂‚àö√≤a. He was the one who helped her the most in her career and supported her throughout the years. Campbell was often the source of inspiration and walked most of his runway shows.
Naomi has established herself as an actress on the screens and also stared in a number of music videos. There isn’t a single person who doesn’t remember her impactful appearance in Michael Jackson’s “In The Closet’ video. At the age of 47, the gorgeous Campbell still looks like she’s in her 20s. She uses every chance to show off that fierce, recognizable look on the catwalks even now. And we’re all here to feast our eyes every single time.
The CFDA also announced all the nominees in the different categories. In the women’s best designer category the nominee list includes Gabriella Hears, Marc Jacobs, Raf Simons, Virgil Abloh, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Carolina Herrera will be presented with the Founder’s Award, which pays homage to Eleanor Lambert. Edward Enninful, on the other hand, will be honored with the Media Award celebrating Eugenia Sheppard. Dianne Von Furstenberg will be awarded the Swarovski Award for Positive Change.

Stacey Bendet, the founder of famous fashion house Alice + Olivia is launching a denim brand. AO.LA is the sister company, that will deliver trendy pieces that will make any lady feel and look good. Stacey celebrates her new achievement with AO.LA’s first collection, inspired by the 70s. The debut line will feature chic denim styles, tees, edgy jackets and more. They all remind very much of the trends from that decade but are re-done in a modern way.
“I’ve always designed with the goal of dressing a woman for all aspects of her life. AO.LA began as a concept, my sort of West Coast alter ego, the casual weekend cool, the dressed up jean. The inspiration image for the collection was a picture of my mom in her wedding gown with a pair of big bell bottom jeans underneath. Jeans are so much a part of a woman’s life, her memories, her life stories‚Äö√Ñ√∂‚àö√묨‚àÇ and that’s what I set out to do with AO.LA., create jeans that make a woman feel empowered and good, jeans that tell a story.’- Stacey explained her inspiration behind the new brand.
Denim takes a central place in the line. The new denim drop shares a positive message starting from the name of the jeans styles. They are dubbed as Beautiful, Good, Great, Amazing, Fabulous, and Perfect. All of their linings are decorated with empowering messages such as “You look gorgeous today’. It doesn’t matter if you are a fan of skinny jeans, chic embroidered looks, or flared jeans, you will find them all in Stacey’s new collection. AO.LA’s tees are super-trendy and feature fun pictures from icons such as David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, and Mickey Mouse.
The goal of this collection is not only to make women feel good in their new denim. Another thing that Bendet wanted to achieve is to help those in need. Exactly 10 percent of the Good jeans proceeds will go to a charitable cause- the Good + Foundation.
The price range of the jeans will vary between $198 and $295 depending on the style. Kimonos are definitely on the pricier side with a range that starts at $330 up to $495. The most expensive piece in the collection is a black leather jacket that costs $1,095.
You can get the new AO.LA styles at several places. The collection launches together with the resort one and both are available online. Additionally, 21 of Alice + Olivia’s stores will carry the capsule line. Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus are the two retailers that you should also visit. Today is the official launch date for the new goods.

Iman is one of the most iconic and beautiful models in the history. Her modeling career started at a very young age in Kenya. Iman was discovered by the famous Peter Beard who is responsible for her huge success. Her first photoshoot was for Vogue in 1976, when she was only 20 years old. The model moved to New York and started pursuing her dreams. According to her interview, she never expected or imagined that a simple girl from eastern Africa could become such an influential name. Take a look at the emotional video where Iman tells the stories behind her Vogue covers.
Her name means “faith’ in Arabic. Iman explains that she had a lot of faith during her beginnings, and that’s what kept her going. Once Peter showed the photographs he had taken, she officially got her first booking for Vogue. The photoshoot was done by Arthur Elgort for the October issue of the magazine in 1976.
In her mid-30s Iman decided to announce her retirement from modeling with a special goodbye photoshoot. After fifteen successful years of being a supermodel, she decided that it was time to leave the runway to her younger colleagues. The finial shoot was a masterpiece by Helmut Newton, who captured the most amazing pictures to make this astonishing woman enough justice. This was another glamorous Vogue cover for Iman. The photoshoot happened in Helmut’s house in Monte Carlo.
After this, Iman pursued an acting career in Los Angeles. That is where she met her future husband David Bowie. The couple married in 1992. In 1994 they got photographed by Irving Penn for another iconic Vogue cover.
Since her career begun, Iman has been on many covers of this amazing magazine. Her influence in the world of fashion is indisputable. She has left a very strong imprint and is an inspiration to many nowadays models and women in general.
The renewed fashion magazine Vogue invited probably the most stylish couple in the world to grace its August Cover. Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik posed for Vogue’s cover with pieces that they borrowed from each other’s wardrobe. The infamous couple exchanged everything from pants to jackets and apparently, this isn’t something unusual for them. It turns out that the ultimate It girl and her stylish boyfriend steal pieces from one another on regular basis.
“I shop in your closet all the time, don’t I?’ Gigi asked Malik, to which he replied: “Yeah, but same.”
Gigi explained that they don’t pay attention to the gender label on certain pieces of clothing such as T-shirts.
“It’s not about gender. It’s about, like, shapes. And what feels good on you that day. And anyway, it’s fun to experiment,’ she tells Vogue.
Stealing a t-shirt from your boyfriend is probably something that you have done at least once. What’s interesting is that boyfriends hardly ever borrow their girlfriends’ pieces. Zayn apparently isn’t afraid to steal things from Gigi. After all his experimental style is what makes him one of the best-dressed man on the scene. Some guys may frown at this practice, but most certainly Zayn knows what he does. Let’s not forget that he worked next to Donatella Versace for the Versus Versace capsule collection.
“With social media, the world’s gotten very small, and it can seem like everyone’s doing the same thing. Gender, whatever‚Äö√Ñ√∂‚àö√ë‚àö√Üyou want to make your own statement. You know? You want to feel distinct,’ Zayn explains Vogue why he likes to experiment with his style.
It seems that lately, the gender lines in fashion are blurring. More and more brands and designers opt for a gender-bending approach to fashion. The runways are packed with clothes that don’t have a gender label. Just recently the creative director of Gucci Alessandro Michele dressed the female models in masculine suits and the male models in floral and brocade pieces. Celebrities also like the idea of genderless fashion. A perfect example for that is the gender fluid style icon Jaden Smith who has been the star of the Louis Vuitton womenswear campaign. Last year the rapper Young Thug surprised everyone wearing a long blue ruffled dress on a cover for his mixtape. The designer who’s behind the dress Alessandro Trincone and the rapper refuse to believe in such a thing as gender.
Some designers embrace gender fluidity by showing their men’s and women’s collections together. Just recently we reported about Raf Simons Spring 2018 Menswear show. The designer included several female models and we couldn’t see the difference between the men’s and women’s clothing.
Anyway, let’s not forget that the gender-bending fashion is not something that started recently. The legendary David Bowie rejected to accept the traditional masculinity and erased the gender codes from his style. He is still a major inspiration for all those people who refuse to define themselves by gender.
Vogue described Gigi and Zayn as “a New Generation Embracing Gender Fluidity.’ But some Twitter users weren’t pleased with this presentation. According to them, Gigi and Malik aren’t really “gender fluid.’
“Think Vogue is a bit confused on what gender fluidity is! Wearing your gf’s T-shirt does not make you gender fluid,” one person stressed.
“Yes hello police, Gigi Hadid wore pants last week and now vogue is calling her a gender fluid icon,” another user wrote.
The story got a lot of attention and some users explained that wearing your girlfriend’s and boyfriend’s pieces just because they look good doesn’t make you gender fluid. Also, many people were confused why a heterosexual couple was chosen to represent gender fluidity. On the other hand, some users enjoyed Zayn on the cover of Vogue.
“A Muslim man on the cover of US Vogue. Yassss,” a user on Twitter wrote.
Zayn and Gigi might not seem as the right example of gender fluidity to some people, but they are most certainly sending a powerful message. Each clothing piece belongs to a person, not to a gender. After all, people should wear whatever makes them feel good.

The Council of Fashion Designers of America honored the legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath at the CFDA Fashion Awards 2017. The association every year in June celebrates and awards the best of the American design. Even though Path McGrath is British, her contribution to the American Fashion world is vast. Pat is the first makeup artist ever to receive the CFDA’s Founder’s Award. For more than twenty years Pat creates the most iconic runway makeup looks and graces numberless magazine covers with her work. She has worked with most of the haute couture fashion houses and top models such as Naomi Campbell, Gigi Hadid, and Cara Delevingne.
Pat launched her eponymous makeup brand Pat McGrath Labs and her products are out of this world. Before she launched her own products she helped many famous brands to create their products. She has collaborated with Dior, Gucci, CoverGirl and Dolce and Gabbana in the past.
Pat creates futuristic unconventional makeup looks using sequins, crystals, pigments, face paints and unique techniques.
Feast your eyes on just a few of the many iconic makeup looks that the makeup goddess Pat McGrath has created through the years.
Christian Dior Spring Couture 2004
Back in 2004, Pat created this jaw-dropping Tutankhamun-inspired makeup look. The unconventional recreation of the Egyptian pharaoh featured mesmerizing gold metallic details all over the model’s face.
Christian Dior Fall 2009
Pat channeled the Geisha glamor for the Christian Dior Fall 2009 runway show. The artist transformed the model’s brows into thin lines and placed the accent on the eyes. She included long false lower eyelashes that gave a bold note to the entire look. Pat used the degradé lip technique to create a modern version of the signature Geisha lips.
Christian Dior Fall 2010 Couture
The greatest makeup artist of all times virtuously paired the avant-garde and the romance in this look. She did a bold graphic vivid blue eyeliner and paired it with deep plum lips. The unconventional eyeliner was enriched with sensual long false eyelashes that added more drama to the look.
Christian Dior Fall 2011 Couture
This is one of the most popular makeup looks that Pat has created. We could only guess how many hours were invested in this look. The tiny crystals were placed all over the model’s eyelids all the way to the temples. The strategic placement of the crystals created a smokey eye effect. The dark burgundy lipstick added a dose of romance to the look.
Christian Dior Fall 2012 Couture
Pat transferred the color-blocking trend that took over the runways to the model’s eyelids and lips. She used bright neon colors and even a colored mascara to create the most beautiful colorful beauty statements.
Christian Dior Spring 2014
For this breath-taking look, McGrath used a few layers of gold paint, gold glitter and gold pigment. She covered the brows and the eyelids with the metallic gold shade in order to achieve the texture of the brocade fabric.
Givenchy Fall 2015
As you could see, Pat often opts for crystals, sequins and even jewelry pieces like in this case. The Victorian-inspired makeup look that took nearly six hours to create looks like a real piece of art.
Maison Margiela Fall 2015
Pat’s talent is truly limitless even when she doesn’t play with regular makeup products. For this abstract look she distributed a face paint on one side of the model’s face. The look was inspired by the monochromatic paintings of the French artist Yves Klein. The international Klein blue hue on the model’s face made an unbeatable beauty statement at the Maison Margiela fall runway show.
Maison Margiela Spring 2016 Couture
Path McGrath channeled David Bowie through this futuristic makeup look. This is another look that includes a lot of sparkles and 3D elements. The silver stars framed the model’s eye. The shiny black lipstick with a touch of scarlet on the lower lip made this look probably one of the boldest that Pat McGrath has ever done.
Viktor & Rolf Spring/Summer 2017 Couture
This year Pat decided to play with a thread as makeup. We had the pleasure to see the mesmerizing wings created with thread instead of eyeliner. She shaped the thread in a cat-eye shape and glued it to the model’s eyelids. To add more drama Pat painted the thread with gold and silver pigments.
After so many collaborations with famous brands, we can finally get a piece of Alexa’s unique style from her signature label ALEXACHUNG. We already had a sneak peek of Alexa Chung’s eponymous label and now the entire Pre-Fall 2017 Collection is out.
The 33-year old It girl decided to hold her first show at the most unexpected place. Namely, Alexa presented her collection in a Danish Church next to Regent’s Park in London. The presentation felt like a wedding and Alexa has an explanation why.
“I’ve been to a billion weddings recently. There’s a big demand for tea dresses in my life!’ ” She tells Vogue.
She doesn’t have any plans to get married soon but she could definitely see her friends wearing the pieces.
To make the atmosphere even more authentic there was pink confetti shower and a ribboned old timer Mercedes convertible parked outside in the yard. The Capital Children Choir sang “Good Vibrations’ by The Beach Boys while the last bridal-appropriate creation paraded on the runway.
The Pre-fall 2017 Collection was full of denim pieces. This was not a surprise considering the fact that Alexa Chung is behind the designs. Just as her style the collection was full of contrast between masculine elements and girly details.
Opposite of the androgynous outfits that featured denim bottoms and sweatshirts, Alexa also presented girly long floral dresses paired with cute ballerina shoes.
Speaking of dresses we must mention the astonishing white bridal-like dress with a structured waist, ruffle short sleeves and a big ruffle that was framing the hemline. Alexa paired this creation with silver sparkly platform shoes and made the perfect wedding combination for the most unconventional brides.
Part of the collection had a strong rock n’ roll feel and resembled the style of the biggest style icons of all times. We could see that Alexa got inspired by the style of famous stars such as David Bowie, Brian Jones, and Marianne Faithfull.
Alexa is keeping herself busy working on her new drops in the studio full of professional designers in London. Soon the studio will be transferred to the De Beauvoir East End fashion hub. Believe it or not Alexa and her team are already working on their sixth collection.
All of the collections are see-now-buy-now collections and the price range is a bit high. This shouldn’t be a concern for Alexa considering her strong fashion influence. She also admitted that she didn’t take any technical lessons because she likes to design on the emotional side. The most important thing to Alexa is how a certain creation makes her feel.

The newest summer hair trend has officially arrived! Tangerine hair is definitely a must-try. The trend is created for all the bold girls who love to experiment with their hair. After the unicorn hair trend, pearl hair, and even grandma’s hair, it looks like the tangerine hair trend is going to rule the summer. This style is reminiscent of Leeloo’s look in the iconic movie “The Fifth Element’. Lady Gaga is one of the celebrities who already tried this look, and the legendary David Bowie did it way before it was popular.

A post shared by OC Hair Stylist @TeaseSalonOC (@hairbykristingrip) on
This trend is already very popular on Instagram. Many fashion and beauty bloggers dyed their hair in different tones of orange. But take note: if you think the whole point is just to dye your hair orange, you are terribly wrong. This is a whole new dimension of a neon-like orange color that will refresh your summer style. The tangerine trend is reminiscent of the blorange hair trend that was popular earlier this year. The orange color can be mixed with blonde and red tones if you don’t want to experiment much. You can also choose the intensity of the color, depending on how bold you feel.
For the girls that are just not ready to rock the whole tangerine hair trend, there is an option to get just a part of their hair dyed. If they like what they see, they can always go all in. Another thing that you can do is the ombre tangerine style. It can be done both on short and long hair. The possibilities are endless. All you have to do is find a good hairdresser and have the confidence.
According to the hairstylist Brittan White, you don’t have to be platinum in order to get the tangerine color ‚Äö√Ñ√∂‚àö√ë‚àö√Ü but you will need to spend at least four hours at the hair salon. In case you are worried whether this trend will compliment your skin color, Brittan has expert advice for you.
“A gold or yellow base will work,” she said during an interview with Allure. “The lighter you go, the more pastel the tangerine will be. Paler people should lean more toward the coral side and less yellow. Those with dark brown or caramel-toned skin look really gorgeous with a bright orange hue.’
