The sun is still shining and temperatures warm outside but every fashion lover knows that now is the time to start preparing their wardrobes for the cooler seasons ahead.

Throughout the colder months, outerwear is the item of clothing most on show. Therefore, coats and jackets are a great way to update your wardrobe. They are a worthy investment as they have the ability to smarten up any outfit whether it is simple jeans and knitwear or a sleek monochromatic look

Recent runway shows and top designers showcased plenty of wearable trends for Fall/Winter 2022-23. High on the trend list this season are voluminous sleeves, cinched in waists and statement leathers. Trends specific to outerwear include bright colours, elegant ponchos, faux fur and long line coats.

Next season’s hottest items are already arriving into shore, so here is a rundown of the outerwear trends to invest in now.

Bold colours

What better way to brighten up a dull winter morning than a bold coloured coat? Colours such as citrus orange, cherry red, bubblegum pink and deep blue were all seen on the catwalks. Therefore, swap the traditional black and grey coats for vivid colours for a fashion forward look and an instant mood changer.

Ponchos

The noughties trend is back and more stylish that ever.  An elegant poncho is the perfect transitional piece as the temperatures begin to drop. It will keep you cosy, while showing off stylish chunky knitwear. This season the designers have offered many interpretations, with styles to suit every atheistic. Think warm wool styled with jeans and boots for a boho vibe and sequins for formal occasions. It’s a look that can be worn casually or choose a structured style to add interest to workwear. Cinch in the waist with a belt to balance the volume and tick off two trends in one this season.

Herringbone

Black and white coats will always look stylish. But this season, mix it up and stay on trend by choosing a herringbone patterned coat. Monochrome is a timeless classic and as a pattern herringbone will offer a slightly less harsh look. It will stand the test of time and be an item that can be taken from the wardrobe and worn for years to come.

Shearling

Fashion followers have been flirting with this trend for a few years now. However, this year it is set to be one of the biggest trends with designers putting a fresh spin on the classic shearling jacket. No longer is shearling resigned to being just a cosy lining, the fabric is now the main feature.

Trench coat

Once a trend, now a timeless classic. The good news is that most women are likely to already own a neutral-coloured trench coat. For the fashion forward, ateliers produced trenches with floral patterns and sophisticated floor length styles for a more dramatic evening wear option.

Long line leather

The leather jacket has had a style update too, with the fashion set favouring long line leather coats for Fall/Winter 2022-23. Recent fashion week catwalk shows in New York, London, Milan and Paris have all displayed head to toe leather looks. Leather coats in classic cuts and floor grazing trench styles with belted waists in black, brown and caramel shades were the most popular.

The smart silhouette will be suited to all occasions. Style casually with jeans and a knit jumper for a lunch with friends or with a little black dress for a night on the town. It is sure to work hard in your wardrobe this upcoming Fall.

Faux fur

Faux fur always come around this time of year, especially in the build up to the festive season. Now, they are brighter, bolder, more oversized and longer meaning there is no chance to feel the cold breeze. This season especially the focus is on the finer details too. Think faux fur collars, sleeves, pockets and belts for cosy extras that a quirky touch to your classic coat.

Finally

The word trend may have a negative connotation for some shoppers, but whilst these are the trending coats for the Fall/Winter 2022-23 season you will find that they many of these styles have been around a long time. Any investments made this year are sure to stand the test of time and offer you multiple wears year after year.
