Even though bracelets are significantly small accessories, they make a noticeable difference in your style. Somewhere in your life, you might have gotten yourself a bracelet that you love. It might’ve been passed down from your grandma, a beautiful gift diamond bracelet from your significant other or maybe you just like jewelry and have a collection of bracelets. However, there are times when you buy a lovely bracelet and unfortunately, it doesn’t fit or suit you.

For a bracelet to look good on you, it’s crucial to get the right size. Anything that is too loose or skin pinching is not the ideal choice to get. But don’t worry, this article will help you understand how to measure the right size for a bracelet, whether it’s a clasp bracelet or bangle.

  1. Measuring Your Wrist: Before buying a bracelet for yourself or for someone else, it’s important to have an idea of what size to get. The size of the bracelet is dependent on the type you are getting, whether it’s a clasp bracelet or bangle.
  2. Measure Your Wrist For Clasp Bracelets: Clasp bracelets looks classic when they are slightly loose and have a bit of wiggle room around your wrist. To get this fit, it’s preferred the bracelet is almost an inch bigger than your wrist. If your wrist size is 6.5 inches, the bracelet should be 7.5 inches. On the other hand, clasp bracelets can also look good with a snug fit, and for this, the bracelet can be between a quarter to half an inch bigger than the wrist. You get the liberty of a snug fit because a clasp bracelet can be opened from one end and fit perfectly around your wrist.
  3. Measure Your Wrist For Bangles: Bangles are more sturdy bracelets that don’t have the liberty to move around or dangle like a clasp bracelet, so the measurement method is different. To measure for a bangle, you need to bring all your fingers and touch the thumb without folding your fingers, the shape you make when you try to put on a bangle, and then measure the widest part of your knuckles. The size of the bangle should be half an inch bigger than your measurement. If your measurement of knuckles is 7 inches, the size of the bangle should be around 7.5 inches.

How long should a bracelet be?

Ideally, the length of a bracelet should depend on the type. If you are going for a clasp bracelet, it can be a bit loose or snug but not too tight that it feels like the bracelet is hurting your skin. A bangle should be a little loose to make it easier for you to put them on without hurting your knuckles or wrist. A size that is comfortable to put on and take off would be an accurate representation of the correct bracelet length. If you can slip in a finger or two between your bracelet and your wrist, then it should be perfect.

Things To Do If Your Bracelet Is Too Long Or Too Short

Just like a watch, a clasp bracelet most often comes with multiple eyelets and the size can be adjusted by simply tugging the clasp with one of the eyelets to get the desired length. However, there are some challenges with adjusting a bangle or bracelet with an all-around setting like a diamond bracelet.

  • Bracelet is too long: If the length is a problem on a clasp bracelet, then it’s fairly easy to adjust as one or two joints of the bracelet can be removed and reconnect the clasp to a new end. On the other hand, if you have a bangle bracelet, then the procedure is a little time-consuming. You will have to get a part of the bangle cut and soldered again while making sure none of the machine work is shown and if this is the situation, it’s advised to get it done by the same seller you purchased the bracelet from.
  • Bracelet is too short: Enlarging a bracelet is quite challenging but not impossible. It’s easier to increase the size of normal chain bracelets by adding a joint or two to the existing size. Although altering a bracelet with a complex design is possible, it is always suggested that these changes be done by the same seller.

How do you tighten loose bracelets?

Bracelets can be expensive, so it’s always good to contact your seller and get an update regarding the alteration possibilities instead of messing around and ruining your precious accessory.

These are some of the pointers to score a perfect accessory for yourself or a gift for someone else, also now you also know what to do if your grandma’s bracelet keeps falling off your hand.
