Currently, Colombian passport holders are permitted to visit any Schengen member country without the need for a visa. This applies to Colombian visitors visiting Europe for up to 90 days. Click the link to learn more about eu visa requirements for Colombian citizens.

Colombian citizens will continue to be granted 90-day stays in the European Union for leisure, tourism, and business purposes after the European Travel Information and Authorization System, or ETIAS, goes into effect in late 2022.

Visa Policy for Italy

The visa policy of Italy determines who requires a visa to enter the country and whether a foreign citizen is from a visa-exempt country. The visa requirements for visitors to Italy vary depending on their nationality, the purpose of their visit, and the length of their stay.

Italy is among the 26 European countries that comprise the Schengen passport-free zone. Travelers from other Schengen Area countries can travel freely by simply presenting a valid National ID card.

Many other visa-exempt countries can now travel to Italy visa-free by air, sea, or land, for a maximum 90 days for tourism, business, medical treatment, or transit.

Visa-free citizens from outside the Schengen Area will be required to pre-register for an ETIAS authorization to visit Italy for short stays by the end of 2022. This online visa waiver will be available via a simple online application and will be electronically linked to the traveler’s passport once approved.

All foreign citizens who intend to visit Italy for extended periods or for other reasons must apply for an embassy visa from an Italian government diplomatic office.

To travel to Italy, any foreign citizen who is not a member of the Schengen Area must have a valid passport, regardless of whether they require a visa.

Do Colombian Citizens need a Visa for Italy?

Colombian citizens do not currently require a visa to visit the European Schengen countries, including Italy. This visa exemption will remain in effect indefinitely.

Colombians will be required to register with ETIAS beginning in 2022 to continue benefiting from their visa exemption for entry into Italy.

Colombians are among the 60 countries whose citizens are eligible to apply for an ETIAS visa waiver.

Colombian nationals who have registered with ETIAS will be able to enter the Schengen Area without a visa, including Italy.

ETIAS is not a visa; rather, it is an electronic travel permit that enables European authorities to screen passengers before their arrival. This is intended to improve the 26-country bloc’s overall border integrity and security.

The ETIAS visa waiver allows passengers from Colombia to enter multiple times and stay for up to 90 days within 180 days. This means that visitors will no longer need to apply for an ETIAS visa waiver every time they leave Europe and return.

Registering with ETIAS is a much faster and easier process than applying for a visa. The straightforward application form is available online from any location with an internet connection.

This means that Colombian travelers can register from the comfort of their own homes, rather than having to go to an embassy, as they would for a visa.

What are the prerequisites to fill out the online application?

Colombian citizens who wish to apply for an ETIAS visa waiver must first fulfill a number of prerequisites. These are the following:

·        Colombian passport valid for at least three months from the date of entry into Europe

·        Email address

·        A debit or credit card linked to a bank account that can be used to make online payments.

How to apply for the ETIAS from Colombia?

Colombian citizens can apply for the ETIAS visa waiver by simply filling out an online application form with their personal passport information and travel details:

·        The basics (name, date of birth, gender, country of citizenship, etc.)

·        Contact information

·        Passport number, date of issuance, and date of expiration

·        An outline of travel plans for Europe and the intended port of entry

Colombian visitors may also be asked pertinent questions about their health and security. They may also be asked to provide additional information to back up the basic information on the application form.

Colombian registrants must fill out the ETIAS visa waiver application form completely and accurately. Incorrect, misleading, or false information can jeopardize the applicant’s travel plans. In fact, Italian authorities will use such information to delay or even deny them entry into Italy.

Colombian citizens will have the opportunity to revise the information they have entered on the form before submitting it for review. They will also be charged a processing fee to complete the application process.
