Temperley London Pre-Fall 2017 Collection Brings to Mind England
London-based Alice Temperley knows how to travel back in time and immerse herself in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, as proved by her latest Temperley London pre-fall 2017 collection as well.
Although being definitely fairytale-like, the Temperley London pre-fall 2017 collection continues many recent pre-fall 2017 collection’s darker leitmotifs, which will surely help make next year’s pre-fall season more mysterious and magically appealing.
For her latest pre-fall 2017 collection, Temperley directly drew inspiration from her beloved British countryside, embodying both its naturalistic motifs (in terms of both the flora and fauna) and its Victorian-inspired figures from the 19th century (yet filtered through a more feminist lens). Both the day- and eveningwear got, in fact, embellished either with floral or fauna-inspired patterns, the motifs of which will definitely light up and help us cope with the pre-fall season’s usually pessimistic and nostalgic attitudes.
Temperley’s pre-fall 2017 woman is neither afraid to wander, nor to freely express herself in all her glory, as she does dress to impress, yet only herself. “She’s the hunter and gatherer and she’s collecting her charms and things ‚Äö√Ñ√∂‚àö√ë‚àö√Ü she’s from the forest,’ Temperley told WWD of her pre-fall inspiration. “It’s an English countryside fairy-tale.’
Although being predominantly dark-toned, the Temperley pre-fall 2017 collection seems to follow the fairytale’s signature archetypes, with the magician, the heroin, and the witch being independent women that know what they want. Both the more conventionally feminine and more mannish-inspired outfits exude strong vibes that one really cannot ignore, as they inevitably charm us.
Flirty frilled hems and oversized, androgynous coats harmoniously coexist throughout the collection, encouraging us to mix and match and have fun with fashion. Victorian-inspired pilgrim collars got instead paired with more modern layered gowns and then refined with colorful floral patterns, the vivacity of which plays a dynamic contrast with the signature darker Victorian elements.
As the collection drew to a close, Alice Temperley also had fun adding holiday-ready staples, such as asymmetrical dresses with a slight flamenco appeal, floor-length princess-like frocks with sensually sophisticated plunging-V necklines, and even more Nineties-inspired, oriental-infused proposals dipped into cascades of contrasting sequined patterns, which truly give as a glimpse of not only Temperley’s astounding tailoring skills, but also versatility.
With this Temperley London pre-fall 2017 collection being so diverse, we cannot wait to see what Alice Temperley has in store for us for the upcoming fall/winter 2017-18 season as well!
