Thanks Girls! Stella McCartney Spring/Summer 2017 Collection
Stella McCartney knows how to create a real show out of a collection, and for her Stella McCartney spring/summer 2017 collection she just took this unique skill of hers to a brand new level. At the end of the show, Stella McCartney’s models all gathered together and broke out in a super funny choreographed dance, which managed to defuse tension (Stella McCartney’s collections are always highly anticipated) and just cheer everyone up. Needless to say, the video from the little dance show is already viral all over the main social media pages!
As for the Stella McCartney spring/summer 2017 ready-to-wear collection per se, the designer did not disappoint us either. All in all, the collection was extremely wearable, with the staples being specifically meant to walk, run, work, study and, of course, dance in. Her lineup could be described as an ode to the present, with a direct message urging us to live in the moment.
“The show is about the spirit of love and hope and being in the moment,” she explained backstage. “With the world we are living in today, it is a reaction to that and a celebration of the experience of life.’
Named “softness and serenity in movement”, the Stella McCartney spring 2017 collection translated its ‘carpe diem’ motto to slouchy, extremely relaxed figures, with billowy pants and roomy sweaters non-so-subtly encouraging us to just relax, take a deep breath, and do something we really enjoy doing.
Of course, extremely sophisticated urban-chic touches were present too. Organic faux suede and leather platform sandals and handbags were often paired with oversized wrapped dresses and boyfriend shirts, which in return got combined with revisited jodhpur pants and slicked-back hairdos. The collection played with little touches of sensuality too, mainly to be seen in the one-sleeved blouses and see-through fabrics most of the asymmetrical tank tops were made of.
Interestingly, the lineup had a sort of prairie couture inspired moment too, with exaggerated puffed-up shoulders and modest-looking mid-calf gowns being alternated with warm ponchos and oversized shirtdresses.
The collection exuded slightly girl power notes as well, which got often mixed with Stella McCartney’s commitment to the environmental protection cause. Statements such as ‘no fur’, ‘no leather’, ‘all is love’ and ‘thanks girls’ got utilized to embellish the workwear-inspired ensembles, such as rompers and cozy t-shirts.
Rompers and jumpsuits, whether they were closer to urban-chic or workwear, were at the core of the Stella McCartney spring/summer 2017 collection, as she never misses a chance to surprise us with unconventional staples that always break through the common Paris Fashion Week trends.
Towards the end of the show, maybe to get us ready for the dancing part, Stella McCartney also opted to show the collection’s most street style-approved allure, with billowy t-shirts coming layered with oversized varsity jackets and roomy palazzo pants.
Probably not suitable for everyone, this collection once again proved fashion can be life changing and absolutely empowering in terms of both fashion and advocacy, as it reminded us, the industry can really help change the world for the better.
