Modern, Urban Odyssey at Vionnet Spring/Summer 2017 Runway Show
The Vionnet spring/summer 2017 runway show that showed during Paris Fashion Week was an overall beautiful collection with a lot of interesting and provocative features. The pieces ranged between complex and simple, but each was beautiful regardless; with bright colors and haute touches, the ensembles were intersecting to look at, exciting to consider wearing.
The history behind this brand is as interesting as the clothing itself as the House of Vionnet has been resurrected for decades but passing quietly from one owner to another since its resurrection. The most current creative director is Goga Ashkenazi, who took control in 2012.
Many of the pieces were said to contain a bit of wording that spoke in the most obvious of ways, to the amount of work that is put into each individual piece. The layers of sheers in great colors and the charismatic touches, like the interesting keyhole on look 13 were intriguing.
Most of the looks are beautiful, though a few would not look complementary on even the thinnest of consumers, but the looks in the Vionnet spring 2017 collection are still varied and interesting. The layered details of the hemline for the very first look and those similar within the collection were just as stunning.
Many of the color combinations seemed to mimic jewel tones on semi precious stones as they were inundated with flecks of other colors. As an example look 19 is a floor-length, one-shoulder gown with layer upon diagonal layer creating a cascading gown in a stunning blue with undertones of other colors to give this dress even more dimension. The dress has everything ” movement, texture, color, a flattering neckline and an interesting silhouette.
Many of the pieces are obviously well thought out and meticulously put together and shown. It was that very point that Vionnet was attempting to make by elaborating to the viewer that every detail has a history, and that the history or each article means something to the designers.
The concept was not hard to get and though the fashion line presents interesting clothes all the time, it is nice to see and know that this will continue. As a concept, the appreciation for fashion is as highly individualized as the personal experiences that create an opinion.
There are a lot of opinions on Vionnet, and thankfully with the viewing of the Vionnet spring/summer 2017 collection will reach out to create more opinions. We know at the very least there will be 34 opinions, one for each look and that many of those are strongly positive already. The line was beautiful; Vionnet is coming back into its own.
