Rihanna Cites Marie Antoinette In Fenty x Puma Spring/Summer 2017 Collection
The Fenty Rihanna x Puma spring/summer 2017 collection stormed through Paris Fashion Week with an air of fulfillment for the highly anticipated collection. Rihanna was inspired by the last queen of France prior to the French Revolution, Marie Antoinette. This led to her decision not to show her Fenty Rihanna x Puma spring and summer collection during New York Fashion Week, but rather during Paris Fashion Week.
Marie Antoinette was well known as a stunning queen and a creature of excess as was the way of the French monarchy at the time. Pink, lavender, white, chocolate brown and green brocade, satin, silk wrapped models strutted through the Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild and the many different rooms in a cleverly set up maze.
Every look was beautifully and intrinsically detailed, but most were very different from each other. Some of the looks were fashionably slouched, a combination of loose and cinched, many of the pieces were adorned with ruffles and lace.
Several of the most predominant options in the collection were the hoodies. The hoodies were done as outerwear or detailed tops, some lone pull over and some open, but all fashionable reworkings of the normal hoodie meaning that they were beautifully functional in the end and adorned on some of the better known models waking the runway.
Many of the current trends were expanded upon, such as lace and loose fitting pants. These trends were seen throughout the collection in addition to some current favored styles, like triple layered pearl choker worn by Rihanna. Each of the looks have a certain street element to them as was expected of Rihanna’s Fenty Rihanna x Puma spring/summer 2017 collection, but it was seamlessly mixed in with the old world style she was going for.
So many of the ensembles played with a lot of different features, as an example some of the looks featured fabrics or methods that were smooth and textured. One thing that was evident in every look ” Rihanna brought the drama associated with her inspiration and how the runway presentation was everything we could have expected and more.
Clever and irreverent, every piece in the look was separate from the mainstream without being out the box insane; rather the ensembles are forward and fun. The jewelry was interesting to see as some of it was layered and some was worn in unexpected ways, a few rings for example were seen in the mouths of the models as they strutted their way through the Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild.
One of the most interesting accessories was the Puma printed fans, carried on this elaborate runway not only by the models, but by RiRi herself. Not all the fans were the same of course, but each was a spectacular and unexpected addition that fit in perfectly with the design of the collection considering the source of the inspiration.
