Marchesa’s Spring/Summer 2017 Collection Brought Sunrise to The Runway
The beauty and elegance of Marchesa is often unrivalled, with the Marchesa spring/summer 2017 collection being no less a top contender for the red carpet than any other designer line-up found on the New York Fashion Week runway these days. There is something positively ethereal about the sheerness of the pieces that have been presented, from the halter dress in gentle moonlight white, complete with a cape over the shoulders to highlight the moon princess appeal, to the ruffle-accented silvery dress that features a massive slit up the right leg, appearing like a really sexy nightgown for the tastefully rich.
There are tiered silvery dresses and sheaths that fall to the floor with gentle appliques throughout, feathery concoctions of dyed tulle, as well as mermaid silhouettes that feature the flowers of the earth. There is something distinctly royal about it all, with an ancient meets modern feel to it, the thin straps and plunging necklines adding to the allure of one piece after another, the colors in soft pastels.
When it comes to the sleeves, there is no specific style that the Marchesa spring 2017 collection sticks to. It was frothy and extravagant as a whole, but the combination of off-the-shoulder, halter top, thin spaghetti straps and thicker tulle, strapless and short sleeved, as well as a few with shoulder cutouts certainly was intriguing. The necklines were generally open, showing off décolletage, and sometimes a good amount of skin around the bosom as they plunged down low.
We even saw a piece or two with crisscross chest designs that left the abdomen open to the world. The gowns were delightful and most certainly meant for the red carpet, galas and special occasions with golden reflections and dark midnight accents. Add in a frothy cape towards the end and it becomes as royal as a piece can get.
Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig have certainly outdone themselves and they did not have to reinvent the wheel for it either. It is a successful collection that captures the beauty of a woman’s figure, with everything entirely feminine thrown into the mix.
We see everything from sunrise to midnight, pieces that would be fitting for royalty coming from both the light and dark side of the moon. Sensuality seems to be at the top of the game, while gorgeous embroideries will certainly appeal to all the ladies in any age group, that mint tulle column with the fluttering sleeves and the iridescent accents and lace trim standing out especially well for the younger audience.
Fit and flare looks were a dime a dozen, while the 34-piece Marchesa spring/summer 2017 runway collection included some side cutouts, bra strap backs and lots of stretched silk crepe. It was not excessive as we might have expected it to be, and it certainly was not plain either.
It was that perfect balance where the Marchesa brand can see itself thrive. Absolutely loved every second of this magnificent show and looking forward to seeing these incredible masterpieces adorning the lovely bodies of major celebrities around the world.
