Karl Lagerfeld Fall 2016 RTW Is Rife With Wearable Essentials
Karl Lagerfeld‘s ready-to-wear collection for fall 2016 was just that: ready to wear. There were no bells or whistles, as he opted to keep everything totally wearable and chic. But of course, Lagerfeld wouldn’t dream of leaving his beloved cat Choupette out of the collection! She could be found in a picture on a sweatshirt, peering over the shoulder of Lagerfeld. The cat could also be found in a couple of hats, which featured feline ears, or in bags, clutches and one handbag featuring cats’ faces.
Despite the whimsical approach, the garments were styled for a woman with a mission. The cocktail dresses were chic and smooth, leather moto jackets featured Karl’s name in classic comic book action bubbles, and even the sweatshirt with Choupette was made fashion-forward by tucking it into a leather miniskirt. This season, more than others, Lagerfeld was able to find the perfect balance between the fun and sophistication. Where in past seasons it leaned farther on the side of whimsy, he was able to lean in the other direction. Any garment in the Karl Lagerfeld fall 2016 collection would make the perfect addition to any fashionista’s wardrobe.
But you can’t mistake sophistication for being totally mature or serious. With the comic bubbles and clunky shoes, Lagerfeld didn’t concede all of the fun his collections are known for. Looking at the line you can see the potential of the garments to go either way ” to being ‚Äö√†√∂¬¨‚à´ber-casual or to being sophisticated ” and with the various types of styling options provided within the context of this line, Lagerfeld has smartly left that door open for the consumer to decide. If someone wants to buy a leather skirt, for instance, they can choose to style it with the various cat accessories and quirky shoes, or they could easily pick up one of the many chic handbags or clutches without the cat print. Although they might need to pick up their shoes elsewhere!
You never know quite what to expect with a Karl Lagerfeld collection. Case in point, this new polished sophistication was out of the blue compared to last season. There were semblances of this in spring, naturally, but the blatant wearability and commercial aspect of this line is astronomical in comparison, in my opinion.
Specific pieces that displayed levels of chicness were garments like a sparkly three-quarter-length-sleeved mini cocktail dress. The zippered pockets at the hip added the signature whimsy, without being glaring, and the shape of the garment was well suited for any event. Pants were sleek and well-tailored; make sure to save for a pair of ultra-loose pants, especially a pair of pants created with the same glittering fabric as the aforementioned cocktail dress.
And of course you can’t leave out Choupette! The sweatshirts and accessories with her lovable face are always a safe bet when expanding your wardrobe. With the recognizable branding of Karl Lagerfeld, it’ll be easy to tell who’s who once this collection is released in the fall.
