In a set of black and white glamour shots for the Saint Laurent spring 2016 campaign, Cara Delevingne off-handedly announced her return to the modeling industry, even if only for this brief photoshoot. Yves Saint Laurent creative director Hedi Slimane decided to tap Delevingne again, bringing her out of her brief “retirement.” When she announced her break from the industry last August, it seemed to be a final decision, but we are glad to see her back in an ad campaign. She has also, excitingly enough, been named as the label’s newest brand ambassador, so her presence will remain in the brand.
Slimane’s La Collection de Paris features 42 looks from Saint Laurent’s showing at Paris Fashion Week. This was an especially monumental showing, as it was the first runway show to take place within the H‚Äö√†√∂¬¨‚Ä¢tel Sénecterre, where the brand’s newest couture salons are located. For the spring campaign, we were given a classically beautiful selection of four photographs, featuring the captivating Delevingne.
The photos were shot back on March 17 over in New York, and were finally posted on Wednesday, March 30, on the luxury label’s Twitter feed. The stunning model was photographed wearing some exceptional looks from the collection, including a bustier dress with a large belt and sequins, a tuxedo, and a luxurious fur coat shaped as a heart. Going along with Slimane’s lately-signature designs, the looks were classic with an ’80s edge, bringing the iconic fashion era down to scale. Delevingne was a very smart choice to bridge this gap, as her classic beauty and fresh youth are versatile in this way.
With dark, smoky makeup playing against the dark backdrop, and with her skin gleaming white, all eyes are on the model, while still managing to show off the best features of the clothes. Her hair is pulled back tight, and the powerful expressions she embodies do wonders for empowering any woman who wants to wear the Saint Laurent line. Delevingne has much strength as a model, and she is exceedingly good at featuring them all in one photoshoot.
As was briefly mentioned before, this is not the first time Delevingne had appeared in a Saint Laurent shoot. Back for the label’s 2013 line, Delevingne was brought in to promote the grungy style of the season, beginning what some have called a “love affair” of sorts, between Delevingne and Slimane. With the designer’s fluctuation of fashion eras mixing with the model’s ability to portray his intentions, there is no better duo in the industry. The label’s campaigns must make a strong impact if it still wishes to attract the likes of celebrities like Lady Gaga, who just last weekend was seen in a Saint Laurent gold, mega-puff-sleeved mini dress to celebrate her 30th birthday.
Delevingne’s campaign photos join Jane Birkin’s spread for the spring season. Birkin’s photoshoot surrounded the iconic Le Smoking Tuxedo, so between the garments adorning her and Delevingne, the brand has all of its bases covered.
