Polo Ralph Lauren Fall/Winter 2016-2017 RTW – NYFW
Ralph Lauren‘s latest Polo presentation is one of the buzzing hot news out there and, believe us, you will want to know more about it. The presentation that introduced the brand’s new fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection took place at his headquarter on Madison Avenue, and was a part of the New York Fashion Week.
What the presentation was like? Imagine you suddenly woke up in a gentlemen’s club at the Harvard University, with the top class members eyeing you as the new guy. Well, that’s just the male collection we saw, while the female section was more modern and sexy‚Äö√Ñ√∂‚àö√묨‚àÇ without the glamorous classicism that we women find so intriguing sometimes.
What struck us the most is the amount of attention that was given to casting. This was one of the most unique presentations, where we would not be afraid to use the word “diverse’ in its true meaning. 40 female and 40 male models all representing different ethnicities and physical characteristics, all smoking hot wearing Ralph Lauren. They never warn you to bring a bottle of water with you… they should.
While Polo, a Ralph Lauren brand, does include clothing that speaks to some stereotypes, whether you consider yourself open-minded or not, this time it sent out a strong message of demolishing those stereotypes. There are no rules of wearing Polo. Messy beach hair or stubborn curls? Both will work. During the presentation Lauren mentioned that this is the new Polo girl, like you’ve never seen before. “She’s a little more upscale. She’s not a caricature,’ said Lauren.
The colors for the Polo Ralph Lauren fall/winter 2016 collection are very warm and neutral, mostly comprised of taupe, camel, gray, and black. The line was all about A-line dresses and shirts that were worn with leggings, chic suits, boot-cut pants, and finally bringing back a season favorite, the Aztec-themed tunic.
Although the designer mentioned that the men’s section of the collection “is not preppy,’ we would take a second thought before believing it. Sure, it’s not purely preppy, but rather a delicious cocktail of glam, preppy and classic. We love the cocktail, but it’s probably fair to acknowledge that Polo is usually an all-time favorite amongst the preppy shoppers.
The highlights of the men’s collection were the tapered suede suits, a too-good-to-be-true leather jacket, tweed pants, lots of vests, and blazers‚Äö√Ñ√∂‚àö√묨‚àÇ tempting blazers.
The collection had a sporty side as well, providing alternatives to the dressier pieces both for men and women. We can’t deny the fact that the presentation did bring out the profound character of his collection. In fact, you will notice different storylines and scenes coming together into a single presentation. And as we are deeply impressed with the effect it had on the viewers (much more expressive than a runway show), we have started to appreciate the new tendency of skipping conventional fashion shows.
