McQ by Alexander McQueen Fall/Winter 2016-2017 RTW – NYFW
If you like Alexander McQueen, then you certainly love the younger, and quite a bit naughtier sibling to the brand, known as McQ. The main things to know about the McQ by Alexander McQueen fall/winter 2016-2017 ready-to-wear collection shown off at the New York Fashion Week? Oversized is a must, proportions are to be wondered about, longer is better, layered is the way to go and it is all not quite what we would expect. There is something very much Gvasalia’s Vetements about it all. There is something rebelliously gothic about it all, in a na‚Äö√†√∂‚àö√≤ve kind of way.
Think Tokyo, about 3 to 4 decades back. The 1970s and ’80s are the decade we are looking at and it is the eastern regions we turn our eyes to. Biker bars, dance clubs, bar scenes, strippers and culture clashes‚Äö√Ñ√∂‚àö√묨‚àÇ this is the general theme that we are sensing along with most others looking towards the runway. We see outdated obi belts, some shapes reminiscent to a kimono, and lots of interesting modern looks, such as the long favorite shearling coats, the ponchos and the tees, while the high white patent boots are truly interesting to enjoy.
We notice leather jackets and turtlenecks in red, high waist skirts that button down the center and sexy thigh high boots in white and black. Lace-up shoes and ankle cropped trousers are all over, with some graphic tees to really add some sparkle to it all.
There is a certain lack of color to the collection as a whole, with a focus on the black and sometimes the white, bringing in shades of red with crimson and maroon, while a single coat in shearling is of a light beige camel color. It is hard not to love the line-up, from the boots with the laces in the back to the young girl looks, the ruffles on the dresses and the velvet skirts, the trench style jackets and the long dresses in black, flowing about the legs and showing off beautiful décolletage.
We love the single long dress in black and white floral prints with a graphic tee worn underneath, and we are enjoying the bare faces that line the whole of the collection, from top to bottom. There is a certain amount of sexiness to watch out for, especially in the leather jacket style dress with the silver sippers and hardware, worn with black suede thigh high boots. It has a certain appeal few of the other outfits exude. It is as if the fall line is there to cater both to those who have a love for long and covered, as well as those who like the mini hems and showing off a bit of leg skin.
