Elie Saab Couture Spring/Summer 2016 Collection
When it comes to rocking the Red Carpet, knocking down all and sundry and working out a look to be discussed later time and time again, the Lebanese fashion house of luxe category, Elie Saab is a shoo-in for bringing that idea into effect. That is why after checking out the haute couture schedule with the Elie Saab Couture spring/summer collection to be held on Jan. 27, we rested assured to see the same imperial and resplendently intricate massive gowns with the silver threads weaved in scintillating high and low, right and left, while those teeny-weeny sparkling beads, sequins and appliques lending a whole lot more pizzazz to the stunners.
As a matter of fact, our presumptions turned out to be right but to a certain degree only. Elie Saab has pulled his inspiration from the Anglo-Irish aristocrat Lilah Wingfield, a beautiful young lady, nearly six feet tall with deeply set brown eyes and auburn hair, but not in her comfort zone but en route to Delhi Durbar in the early 1911 to attend King George V coronation into emperor. If we cluster together all the previous masterpieces a la Saab and perfuse them with some touches pulled straight from Lilah’s journey dower chest, we will land directly on Elie Saab couture runway.
To all appearances Lilah should have been on cloud nine to ride a horse decked out into those amazing white crepe trousers with a draped skirt overlay paired with silver mirror-like rubber boots, while that intricately embellished chiffon crop top would overtly indicate where her roots were belonging to. While heading to Taj Mahal she would have been at sixes and sevens whether to choose that silver frock with some mauve undertones, all covered with lattice + floral appliques and one of the sleeves reaching a train level or else that violet-blue guipure gown trimmed with glittering sequins with an embellished leather belt cinched around the waist. But we are more than sure that stunning Lilah would have declared the winner to be that amazing gunmetal twinkling dress with multilayered cascading bottom part, the plunging neckline baring the flesh gracefully, while the pretty exquisite jacket with roundish details on the edgings adding a lot more elegance to the whole regality around.
The haute couture adept Elie Saab has really cut the mustard in that complicated task to juxtapose and bring so near the regality with adventurous, free spirit, while at the same time delicately touching the sport area. What really can set the whole world on fire are those shockingly sporty caps but done up exclusively in Elie Saab style ” from stem to stern encrusted with glittering beads.
Some of the chiffon flaring dresses are riveting attention with their heavy sophisticated bibs that are showing off myriads of tassels pouring down like heavy rain up to reaching the models’ thighs; the crepe pants tucked under boots and usually coming in pair with skirt capes are the best barometers that the designer is in a frantic quest for an aristocratic amazon girl. The mini guipure dresses with trumpet sleeves, plunging necklines and multilayered bottoms, at times even covered with realistic blooming flowers to celebrate the nature awakening, are specifically elaborated to whet any bohemian girl’s appetite, while those naked illusion dresses are no wonder to see when you bump into Elie Saab.
This is all to Lilah Wingfield’s liking, that’s for sure, especially that closing massive gown all encrusted with labyrinthine beads, the hemlines touching the ground in a grandiose way, while a white veil modestly covering the hair, a marvelous number she would have opted for to attend that exclusive coronation ceremony in Delhi.
