The Top 5 Retail Trends of 2015
If you’ve been making notes this year, you probably have a few juicy observations about the changes in online retailer trends. Whether you’re the owner or the marketer, they are crucial in understanding where your investments are most needed. So, based on the latest report from Business Insider Intelligence, here are top 5 retail trends we’ve seen in 2015 that you should know (and use, of course!).
1. Ecommerce is Rising
It’s very good that you have a physical store in the Times Square, but you can get even bigger than that by going online. Ecommerce is now being used by many top retail brands. We’ve seen the rise of ecommerce-only brands that are doing just as well as traditional brands. And it’s getting bigger, as new ways of selling online are invented and promoted. Of course, the competition is also rising. If you had about a few dozen competitions in your niche, now you have hundreds. Interested to know how ecommerce should be boosted today? Read on, we have four more retail trends to go.
2. Mobile is REALLY the Future
If you look at the analytics of any well-functioning website that has been receiving consistent traffic in the past few months, you will see a gradual increase in hits from mobile devices. An even better way of observing this trend would be to look around you as you walk home, in the transport, at home, in bars, etc. It’s a smartphone generation out there, and if you want your retail business to succeed, you’d better be optimized and ready for mobile users.
3. Apps are Winning, Websites are in the Past
Although any brand should have at least a one-pager, retail is diving deep into apps. Imagine if your business could get into the smartphones of all the people around you. Now, multiply that with the number of times each person checks their smartphone (or the time they spend on it), and you’ve got the number of chances they can actually engage with your business. According to the BI report, US users are spending more time on shopping apps than mobile websites. Now that Apple has also added a separate app category named Shopping, it’s more than clear that this trend is here to stay.
4. Social Media is Also for Selling
We’ve all seen Facebook pages driving traffic to retail websites, or Etsy shop owners actively promoting their stores on social media, but social media has stepped into a whole new phase in 2015 and we hoped you didn’t miss the news. Everything started with Facebook’s new call-to-action buttons that would redirect users to the shopping website, and everything escalated into Pinterest’s new updates on Buyable Pins and sale notifications. Social media is for selling now. Picking the best networks for retail businesses, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest, you can easily build user circulation by telling on Facebook, showing on Instagram, and selling on Pinterest.
5. Affiliate is Getting Bigger
If you want to go a step ahead, affiliate marketing would be the next level. Online networking, spreading your products everywhere and receiving converting traffic from a not one, but many referrals makes your brand stand strong even if you don’t excel in social media.
These were only 5 of the most popular retail trends of 2015, there’s more coming in 2016, so keep your trendbook ready for expansion.
