Temperley London Pre-Fall 2016 Collection
British fashion designer Alice Temperley has made her mark in the fashion industry with her exceptional skill to work with refined fabrics, intricate hand-sewn finishes, and three eclectic clothing lines. All of these lines produce 10 collections a year, the pre-fall line-ups included. For the Temperley London pre-fall 2016 collection, the 40-year-old designer stayed true to her brand’s British heritage, combining her artisan techniques with hand-worked embellishments to design a wearable and unconventional line-up that travels back in time and space.
With a comprehensive range of daywear and eveningwear pieces, the Temperley London pre-fall 2016 collection combines Dandy influences with Cuban folk motifs, creating an intriguing cultural mash-up that could be described as a sort of retro-futuristic version of what Victorian era people would dress like if living in Cuba. The collection alternates delicate, feminine outfits with masculine looks, and they all manage to epitomize the dandy aesthetic with their rigorous attention to details and accessories. That’s why the collection has a special consideration for jewelry pieces, hats, metallic buttons and tie scarves, the appearance of which goes beyond their traditional usage, becoming more of an aesthetic statement. Even the Cuban folk pieces embrace the dandy-ish culture, making the rings, bracelets and necklaces complete the outfits just ideally. Androgyny celebrates excessive and unconventional styles, and so does the Temperley London pre-fall 2016 collection.
When it comes to the folk inspired outfits, Alice’s gowns definitely are the collection’s key pieces, as they come adorned with botanical prints, hand-embroidered embellishments and Cuban-inspired decorations, the rich red, green and blue colors giving a cheerful dynamism to the gowns. Skirts come both in floor and lower-calf length, and their flared and trumpet cuts perfectly balance the tops’ squared and Florentine necklines, as well as their long, butterfly sleeves. As for the maxi dresses, their off-shoulder and cut-out embellishments perfectly go hand in hand with the dandy theme of the overall collection.
Wide-leg high-waist black trousers, double-breasted coats, tailored wool plaid suits with a cropped single-breasted jacket and cascade-collared shirts interrupt the line-up with a strong mannish allure, with the color palette including black, grey and white that make the Cuban folk-inspired outfits literally stand out of the collection. Such a diversity of styles is also characteristic of the new contemporary dandy movement itself, as it nowadays eclectically alternates whimsical accessories with a sort of minimalistic elegance made of almost no ornamentation and muted colors.
The Temperley London pre-fall 2016 collection aims at enhancing the modern woman’s beauty, whose desire to get dressed each morning goes at the same pace as that of embracing fashion as a form of unconventional self-expression.
