Sibling for River Island To Launch in February
High street retailer River Island has just announced some extremely good news: it is going to launch a capsule collection with London-based knitwear label Sibling, which will be available for purchase in selected UK stores and online on RiverIsland.com starting with February 22, 2016, with the prices ranging from ¬¨¬®¬¨¬£15 to ¬¨¬®¬¨¬£55! Sibling x River Island will make its highly anticipated debut via a short film at London Fashion Week’s Fashion Film Event in February 2016. While we’ll have to wait until February to get our hands on the collection, Sibling decided to painfully tease us revealing some of the collection’s sketches, which show us that we’re in for a real treat indeed.
Described by Sibling’s designer as ‚Äö√Ñ√∂‚àö√ë‚àö‚â§Pretty in Pink’, and by the retailer as a line-up which “oozes a carefree, happy and fun vibe”, the Sibling x River Island collection directly takes inspiration both from Sibling’s main line (whose staple knits, denim fabrics and sequins were highly acclaimed), and from Brigitte Bardot’s unique Lolita style, mixing the actress’s iconic look with a more cosmopolitan urban-chic attitude. As the ice on the topping, ‚Äö√Ñ√∂‚àö√ë‚àö‚â§Pretty in Pink’ will bear influences from Ellen Von Unwerth’ photographs, too, whose erotic and artistic point of views on the woman body will surely give the collection a one-of-a-kind sensual and independent touch.
Launched in May of 2008, Sibling originally started as a menswear brand. It began combining its menswear aesthetics with its womenswear since 2012, quickly becoming one of London Fashion Week’s highlights. With its pink checked denim pieces, floral prints and glitter knits, we really are about to get one of River Island’s most vibrant and quirky collaborations so far! Sibling’s statement style won’t get lost through the process of the making either, as River Island totally gave the house’s creative directors Cozette McCreery and Sid Bryan carte blanche.
“It will stand out because it’s pure Sibling. There’s colour, there’s print, there’s knit techniques, there’s sparkle – all boosted by great hand feel and quality – basically all the things that are important to and make us, well, us,” McCreery stated.
Sibling’s creative directors are more than enthusiastic about this upcoming initiative, and didn’t think twice when asked about the possibility of collaborating with River Island’s Design Forum Collection. They will be following in the footsteps of River Island’s ever growing list of designers, which includes artists such as Zoe Jordan, Eudon Choi and Jean-Pierre Braganza.
“With any of our collaborations it always starts with the question: is this a good fit for the brand and the answer was a resounding yes! Both Sid and I love River Island’s own product especially the level of quality and design. Also their list of previous collaborators: hello Rihanna! It was quite an honour to be asked really. So, given the fact it is also extremely affordable, should we be considering this capsule collection as River Island’s delayed Christmas present?
