Louise Roe Designs a Fashion Line With AS by DF
AS by DF is headed by L.A. designer Denise Focil. AS by DF is widely known as a brand creating clothes for the modern woman, and specializes in leather jackets. Focil has pulled the brand through its first collaboration, and in doing so opened up a new door for the business. TV personality and recent author Louise Roe, whom Focil met through mutual friends, worked with the brand, and the two women of fashion learned their fashion aesthetics met up at several points. They both agreed on the essentials each woman should harbor in her wardrobe, and the two set out to create easy-to-wear garments that could be worn in a multitude of ways, since they both hold a high regard to women with a fast-paced, on the go lifestyle.
“[We] immediately clicked, and we talked for hours about everything, even though we only designed three pieces together,’ Focil told WWD of her experience working with Roe. It seems this collaboration was more fruitful than Focil anticipated. She gained a new friend for her brand, so we hope to see more work between the two fashionistas in the future.
The three-piece Louise Roe for AS by DF collection seems to draw inspiration from the ’70s, and includes an embroidered cognac suede vest, a blue off-the-shoulder maxi dress cinched with a suede fringed belt, and a soft pink lace-detailed camisole. Each piece seems to evoke the warm breezes of spring, making me miss the warm seasons already!
Roe herself is the model for each look, looking beautiful with her charming smile and gorgeous hair. It’s great to see someone who helped design the looks modeling them for the campaign. She has a clear connection to the garments that no one else would have been able to convey in such an authentic way.
“To see the garments come to life and get to style them myself for the campaign was amazing,’ Roe said in an interview with WWD. “I wanted to blend my own sense of style with the brand’s longstanding aesthetic‚Äö√Ñ√∂‚àö√묨‚àÇand it was important for me to feel that the collection was cohesive. Chic, elegant, but cool and laid back, too. You wouldn’t wear the pieces together, but they all complement each other in your closet.’ Looking at how the pieces and pictures come together, the two women definitely achieved all of that. If this is the combination of Roe’s and Focil’s fashion aesthetics, then I’ll reiterate that we hope to see more collaborations between these two in the future!
Louise Roe for AS by DF has a lot to offer in only three garments. The vest will be the priciest piece, at $475, while the cami will be $143. The pieces are definitely an investment, so the higher price point will pay for itself once you discover new ways you can use the pieces in your wardrobe. This casual-chic collection will be available this March, both in American specialty stores and on asbydf.com.
