Victoria’s Secret 2015 Show Performers Announced
According to an announcement made by studio CBS Entertainment this Tuesday, Rihanna, Selena Gomez and The Weeknd will be the acclaimed performers at the Victoria’s Secret 2015 show in New York, on December 8th (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT). Directed by Hamish Hamilton, The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has become a yearly-awaited global phenomenon, and one of the most luxurious and extravagant fashion shows viewed by thousands of men and women from all around the world. Since its debut in New York in 1995 (which wasn’t even broadcast), it has taken place in many different cities, including Cannes, Los Angeles and, most recently, London. This year, the much-anticipated show goes back home and takes place in New York City.
The VS fashion show has been featuring many celebrities and singers since 2001, and some of the most remarkable performances have so far been The Spice Girls, Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake. This year’s edition will mark the show’s 20th anniversary and will feature, in addition to RiRi, Selena Gomez and The Weeknd, who will strut the runway along with VS Angels Adriana Lima, Candice Swanepoel, Elsa Hosk, Alessandra Ambrosio and the 10 new Angels. Furthermore, this year’s edition seems to particularly celebrate top-tier musical talents, whose life is busy with a lot of work and full of great accomplishments.
Rihanna, who co-hosted the show along with fellow colleagues Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars in 2012, will this year make her second Victoria’s Secret Show appearance, inaugurating an upcoming new year full of surprises: she is in fact working on her 8th studio album, Anti, while at the same time promoting her new fragrance, RiRi. The fashion industry seems to have blessed Rihanna with a lot of work, especially after her appointments as creative director of Puma in 2014 and new face of Dior in March 2015.
Selena Gomez, one of Taylor Swift’s best friends, will perform for the first time ever at a Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show this year, but can surely look to her Pennsylvanian friend for advice (Swift performed both in 2013 and 2014 and is the BFF of several Victoria’s Secret Angels); or maybe even to her ex, Justin Bieber. Gomez’s year has been incredibly busy as well: she has starred in Swift’s Bad Blood video, released her second studio album, Revival, and featured ‚Äö√Ñ√∂‚àö√ë‚àö‚â§The Voice’ as round adviser. Last but not least, she was also tapped as Pantene’s celebrity ambassador in June, and is still running her eco-friendly clothing and perfume line at Kmart, called ‚Äö√Ñ√∂‚àö√ë‚àö‚â§Dream Out Loud by Selena Gomez’.
While both RiRi and Selena Gomez will add a girl power attitude to the show, the Canadian singer, songwriter and producer known as The Weekend will surely bring a more modern R&B touch. Behind stage name The Weeknd there’s Abel Tesfaye, a young and extremely talented performer officially ruling the independent R&B scene since 2010. Although he doesn’t have fashion ties like Gomez and RiRi, he has recently appeared as the musical guest in a ‚Äö√Ñ√∂‚àö√ë‚àö‚â§Saturday Night Live’ episode, and has been working on numerous collaborations with artists like Disclosure and Meek Mill. He is also a Grammy Awards nominee. Proud of his Ethiopian heritage, The Weenknd became initially famous on Youtube, where he wasn’t afraid to sing his most touching and thoughtful songs. He is not a social media enthusiast like Rihanna and Gomez, and his mysterious attitude will probably conquer the hearts of the audience.
Since Claudia Schiffer wore the first million dollar bra in 1996, the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has changed a lot. This year’s edition will probably be a turning point for the show, thanks to its inspiring celebration of a new generation of talented artists that the younger audience can look up to.
