David Koma Resort 2016 Collection
We have to admit that David Koma makes resort look so very good, positively delicious! There is something about the pre-spring collections that are made for vacations, as fillers and simply to up the ante on your wardrobe, that really get us excited for the pieces becoming available, while the designers themselves take a whole different approach to their artistic creations. The David Koma resort 2016 collection brings black and white home, sometimes together, sometimes simply alone, at times in color blocks while others merely meld the garments and spin them into some lovely concoctions. For the debut resort collection, Koma’s taken elegance to new heights and the athleticism displayed, as has been the trend of late, to new lengths. The textures of empty swimming pools became inspiration while the ’60s swimsuits with their high waists and alluring appeals brought new light to the rather dark line-up displayed before us.
What we see here are designs that skim the body beautifully, sculpting at times while others just fall against the curves, or lack thereof, with seductive ease. We see a single body-hugging jersey maxi dress with graphics emblazoned on the sporty neckline, looking more like a reworked swimsuit from the past, while there are also pieces with winged chest regions, opening up like a butterfly to show off the white underneath, the pants encasing the legs with laces up to the tops of the thighs and hips. Add strappy sandals and you are good to go. Winged designs also appear on the skirts, mini hems and all, while the laces come into play on the black and the white, tops that show off the shoulders and the midriffs, reminding us of sports clothing, only with more flare.
The black and the white work well together; it is a trend that appeared in 2015 and seems to be creeping into 2016 as well, if a resort collection is any indication to go by. While we wait for the coming year’s pieces to appear within the next few months, we can enjoy the David Koma dresses that fall to the floor, huge slits up the thighs that turn into lacing that extend diagonally over the chest and onto the left spaghetti strap. A calf length tank dress appears in the midst with a V neckline and embellishments giving it a nice shimmer on the mesh of shades of green and yellow in mirrored stones, one which reminds us of the mosaic flooring of a pool.
The spring and fall collections for 2015 had been a whole lot more graphic than the black and white we see here for the resort. There are some touches that only David Koma would make and the pieces themselves look exceptionally lovely on the models themselves. A bold ruffled leather bodice certainly helps liven things up as well, particularly on a black tank dress, while mini hemmed dresses with leather panel inserts and lacing wind up around the bodies to bring out the gorgeous goddess in you.
