Adidas Originals x Mary Katrantzou Summer 2015 Collab
We’ve been given a sneak peak at a rather intriguing collection. It appears as if the Adidas Originals line has struck gold with its collaboration with Mary Katrantzou. The way some describe it, it is the queen of prints meeting the king if cool in this collection and we can say that it is one combination definitely worth doing over and over again. It is a great honour to work with Adidas in general, and when it is an incredibly talented designer like Mary Katrantzou herself, it is even more of a special occasion meant for celebration. When your own label is only 6 years old, it is even more of an honour to have some prestigious sports brand turn to you.
The Mary Katrantzou brand is known for its use of colors and digi style prints, its kaleidoscopes and splashes, the London based label really earning its stripes in the fashion industry. She herself is a Greek fashion designer born in Athens who took the specialties of her mother’s interior design abilities and father’s textile engineering work to a slightly different direction, mixing them up to create an intriguing new design. Her creations are currently sold worldwide in 200 different fashion shops, including Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Barneys, Neiman Marcus and many others. It is available in around 50 countries, while her collaborations over the years include work with Topshop in 2010, and the brand has been featured in such publications as Vogue, Dazed & Confused and Grazia. She was even awarded the Swiss Textiles award in 2010. She has since been awarded multiple awards, her double collaboration with Adidas serving as the biggest award of all.
This time around, the 1980s served as inspiration for the workout gear being presented to the general public. The fitness imagery worked great for the capsule Adidas Orignals x Mary Katrantzou 2015 collection. We see prints of stopwatches, tennis rackets and badminton shuttlecocks all over, making the pieces all the more appealing to the graphic lovers. Coming out next month, this collection is set to feature both apparel and footwear. Half pleated skirts are seen around, the unpleated side blue against the pleated pink. Pair it with a varsity jacket and you have a lovely ensemble. We see an interesting play on maxi dresses as well, with slits on both sides while it seems to be a rather intriguing runner carpet printed onto a simple no-sleeve dress with a high neckline. We even have a sporty jacket that is a total must-have for the summer months, though we are sure it will barely be used in the sweltering weather.
Throughout the collection, the main colors we see center on blues and touches of pink, with a bit of green in pastel tones peeking out here and there. Gentle purples and bits of red come into play while the figures swim about on the cropped tops and pretty dresses, the short pieces and the long, the full pants and the short shorts, all in one. It is certainly a collection that every sports lover will go for.
