Giambattista Valli Resort 2016 Collection
Continuing with the resort collections that have been appearing in a constant whirr these days, we have to stop our perusing when we catch a whiff of the incredible Giambattista Valli resort 2016 collection. He is essentially one of our favourites, with a quirky style and a rather adept hand at making everything work together incredibly well. This time around, the collection is one which can be seen as more of a floral explosion than anything else, with irises and daisies, cherry blossoms and many others coming together in gentle embroideries while also appearing as prints on bomber jackets. The flowery patterns come into play on the very feminine garments as well, taking over Mod mini dresses and the boxier ladylike coats. As usual, the intricate plays of the patterns left us demanding more and more, the eyes roaming over the perfection of his control and precision, the symmetry appealing to our senses.
If we had to give the collection meant to be worn on vacation or merely enjoying a night out on town throughout the cooler months, we would call it a bit more of a romantic environment. Those ruffled dresses would be pretty awesome on a cruise trip, the juxtaposition against the graphic pieces grabbing at our attention and refusing to let go. The 1970s come into play quite nicely, inspiring metallic jacquards on chevron pants, a style that Valli himself hailed back with welcoming arms after bringing them into his pre-fall works. Of course, he cannot offer the exact same styles, which meant the pants got some altering, particularly in getting cropped up and given a flare. Dresses in his resort collection sometimes fall over the trousers themselves, creating cool and rather unconventional evening looks, while having us wonder if the ladies wearing this are the most confused ones who simply cannot decide between a skirt or pantsuit. No matter the case, we can certainly say we love the whole of the line-up, with its 30 different looks.
Strappy gladiator sandals also appear throughout the Giambattista Valli resort 2016 collection as practically the only footwear actually, merely switching from flats to stiletto heels. We also find black strappy sandals with aqua blue beading at one point, a thick silvery glittering heeled pump in another instance, and a similar one to the silver heel but in copper. Most of the anomaly shoes seem to appear under garments, which showcase a fishy appeal. The fabrics of the clothing, however, are simply divine, often thicker and more structured, with a glossy sheen to them, while others have a flimsy, billowing feel to them, which essentially takes in the silhouette and sweetly presents the 1970s child. For the most part, we are staring at maxis and minis when it comes to skirts, though a midi appears here and there over trousers. Mini also comes in shorts under a matching long sleeved flower stylized top with a high neckline, breaking the skirts and trousers pattern. We have to admit though that the dresses are gorgeous beyond belief and the use of the fish scales for inspiration brings about a new edge.
