Prabal Gurung Resort 2016 Collection
If there is crazy awesome and fashion mixed together, know that Prabal Gurung has a hand in it. It appears that it was a vacation that inspired this Prabal Gurung resort 2016 collection, so technically this is one designer who never stops working. And why should he? There is something entirely too mesmerizing about his pieces presented on every fashion week.
If those looking into Prabal’s designs need to learn something, it is that when you love the work you do, you never work a day in your life, which essentially translates to never stopping yourself from working. This is no 9 to 5 job you cannot wait to leave and go home from. It consumes your every waking thought and behaviour, thus turning a relaxing moment into a muse and piece of inspiration. Of course, that in itself is a grand gift and not everyone is able to enjoy such a lifestyle of constant work that keeps the creative juices flowing.
Knowing your customer is another lesson that Gurung learned over the years, turning his normally overwrought pieces into more fluid looks which many can relate to, going for the cleaner, borderline minimalist designs. The artist’s idea is to have a collection, which offers everything, so that the woman buying would not have to go anywhere else.
It was interesting to see the sheath dresses fitting the form of the lady wearing it nicely, some awesome parkas in shearling patchwork, and those chunky hand-knit sweaters which have become an overnight sensation and big ticket item for the brand. Gowns that use the fit and flare technique are perfect for the evening on the other hand, along with the sequined numbers that simply look divine with plunging necklines and sheer paneling falling from thighs to below the knees.
Surprisingly, his collection seems to have been stripped of its beading and feathers that we had grown so accustomed to seeing. We have to admit though, the patchwork leather added into some of the pieces looks spectacular.
Add leather fabric in copper hues, one dress in particular encasing the body nicely, hem falling to the tops of the calves, a plunging neckline drawing attention to the flatness of the chest, and you get some astounding designs. We can certainly see Belize having its influence on this collection!
Midi skirts are big, warm sweaters and ponchos intriguing additions, while the feet are encased in gladiator lace up sandals and some more modern designs to them. Slits up the center look good even in 2016, while the asymmetric skirt has been given an upgrade with the sheer fabric added to create a nice midi or maxi with a slit up the side.
Scarlet is another color that appears beautifully among the looser pieces, the slit up to the thigh on the side of the leg trend looking even better on the sheaths. Black and white, as expected are in, while navy blues also make their appearance. It is a lovely collection, and we cannot wait to get our hands on it.
