Carine Roitfeld Designs a Capsule Fashion Line for Uniqlo
We have many a capsule collection being designed of late and the Carine Roitfeld for Uniqlo designs are no less appealing than any other. On the contrary, we find ourselves utterly excited by the thought of Carine Roitfeld, a fashion editor, stylist and positive style icon being enlisted by Uniqlo in order to come up with a capsule collection of 40 pieces. The release of the collection is expected to be in October of this year, which means that we still have many months of waiting before we can uncover the secrets behind this collaboration and the incredible fashion looks it will yield for us.
Collaborations between individuals and brands are always beneficial in terms of PR and branding. Some have had one, others have had 10, with H&M starting the trend back in 2004 by enlisting Karl Lagerfeld for a trial. This time around, it is Carine Roitfeld herself that has given the capsule line-up new definition and absolute potential, due to her expertise and skills in the area. She was the former editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris, having held the position for 10 years, from 2001 up to January 31, 2011. She was a fashion model, a writer and the current editor-in-chief of CR Fashion Book, one, which she herself founded. The 60-year-old fashion icon does not show her age in the least, having always cut the fashion figure in her perfect silhouette adorned by precisely cut jackets and gorgeous pencil skirt; she has quite the history left training behind her, while her closets are full of Givenchy, Altuzarra and the Nicolas Ghesquiere era Balenciaga. Beginning her acting career at the tender age of 18, she has been a constant in the fashion world for quite some time now. You can tell why her appearance for a collaboration would be so appealing.
Uniqlo is no worse for the wear either. A Japanese fashion retailer with quite a bit of prestige, it makes sense for Roitfeld to join her skills with that of Naoki Takizawa, even if this combination was not one you initially expected. After all, Uniqlo is known for its casual wear, having been around since 2005. They are well known for working on the Japanese Olympic athlete uniforms in 1998, 2002 and 2004, while many other sportsmen around the world have worn the brand as they took first place in their respective events.
“I started from the idea of clothes that I would want to wear myself, and developed this into clothes that anyone would want to wear, a woman’s ideal of clothes that make her feel transformed when she wears them,’ Roitfeld said in a statement. Naoki Takizawa, UNIQLO Design Director adds to this by stating, “Carine goes to see collections all around the world, and the visuals that emerge from this relentless pursuit of leading edge fashion have had a tremendous influence on the fashion industry. The clothing depicted in these fresh and innovative visuals, produced with the fashion world’s most influential creators, seems somehow triumphant. I believe that a new type of LifeWear will be created through her work.’
Her offering will be part of the brand’s LifeWear collection, offering a range of essential from easy ankle pants, stretch Supima shirts, chino shorts and skinny fit jeans, among other items. We are rather curious to find out the product of when comfort meets sexy here, wondering if she’ll be able to pull it off. But then again, if we have so little faith in Carine Roitfeld, we cannot have faith in anyone else.
