Sonia by Sonia Rykiel Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection – Paris Fashion Week
The 84 years old Polish Roman Jew born in the suburbs of France is one interesting fashion designer who has brought her own fashions to the world through personal collaborations and working through her husband’s label “Laura’. Sonia by Sonia Rykiel is a brand that includes everything from her original poor boy sweater that brought her fame and had her dubbed as the Queen of Knits, to cropped pullovers and long shawls. She loves the use of beige, grey, dark blue and charcoal, all of which can also be found in her Sonia by Sonia Rykiel fall/winter 2015-2016 collection, presented yesterday on the Paris Fashion Week runway. This line debuted a year ago and is certainly one of the more likeable lines we’ve been faced with these days.
The designs team at the Sonia by Sonia Rykiel brand described this next seasons’ collection as being the child born when “Insouciant Parisienne meets British post-punk’ and takes on all the beauty genes so that it is quite appealing to the fashion-lover in all of us. The season seems to have taken much from the masculine elements around us and has been lovingly mixed up with a playful edge, sprinkled with a touch of sexy and has such a charismatic attitude overall. There were Prince of Wales checks printed on stretch cotton suits that hugged the body close and enveloped every curve underneath, as well as tartan leggings with matching open back turtlenecks. There were pairs of skinny leather pants cut in the style of jeans as well as oversized button detailing and contrasting colors.
We saw classic gray knit dresses with sporty blue inserts filling the V-neck, as well as the flirty versions with cut-outs near the shoulders. High gloss boots make an appearance while mohair jacket cape paired hybrids roamed the catwalk. The outerwear was especially eye-catching, what with the faux fur accents and the brushed wool tartan prints. There was something totally fun about the way the pieces look and we know they will look just as awesome when worn by us regular people who adore the Rykiel fashions and look forward to seeing them time and again. Mind you, those coats with a rabbit soft layer in youthful palettes would look amazing on us as well, particularly the blush pink version.
Where some of the pieces had a very English look to them, the pantsuit with the black stripes at the sides and the black lapels looks perfect for the fashionable businesswoman, while the leather zip up skirt with the blue accents and the grey sweater with black stars tucked in leaves us thinking of a Pretty Woman style hooker look. Paper clip jewelry and accessories are an interesting addition to the looks, while the red leather jacket with the black patterning on top makes us smile happily. We do like the looks, though we cannot say they were the best on the runway. For every day wear though, these pieces do have that slightly grunge look to them that you cannot escape from and that which bring out a slightly more rebellious side in you.
