Versace Pre-Fall 2015 Collection
Versace has always stood out in the fashion world with its iconic designs embedded with excessive luxury and boldness. The Versace pre-fall 2015 collection, however, takes a totally different route bringing clean and sharp silhouettes with an interesting use of color-blocking and graphic patterns. The retrained color palette consisting of mainly blacks and cobalt blues at times interrupted with splashes of red, white and pink is the next characteristic detail of the sophisticated, yet equally bold aesthetic of the new Versace collection.
Elegant, yet fierce, feminine with masculine notes and polished still with provocative slits and graphic cuts come to mind instantly when looking through this chic collection. Despite the fact that the Italian in-between seasons might be relatively sunny and warm, Donatella Versace has given preference to low-key and moody colors carrying a distinctive Scandinavian feel. She ditched her signature body-con silhouettes, unveiling a collection drenched in masculine and sporty chic fashion spiced up with the traditional Versace luxury and a charming minimalist modern edge. Her artistry of working with various materials (from fluffy fur and edgy leather to technical knits) only added to the luxe of these designs.
Although the majority of the looks were polished and monochromatic with a focus placed on texture, a magnified houndstooth pattern was also used to make the pieces look more elaborate and creative. It appeared in combination with eye-feasting graphic patterns on the clothing pieces (on the chest, the sleeves, skirts and even the colorful tights) and also embellished certain bags and clutches. Color-blocked patterns, including stripes were other design elements that created the elegant spirit of geometric abstraction.
The restrained color palette and forms not typical of Versace didn’t prevent Donatella from adding her iconic luxury and exaggerated sexuality to the designs: she turned the tops into mosaics of leather and fur, a modest long coat featured an unexpected high slit, while the cocktail and evening dresses came with crystal-covered staple-like details holding together the sexy asymmetric slashes. For the latter she looked to her brother Gianni’s signature safety pin dresses for inspiration and the result is really astounding.
Leather played an important role throughout the Versace pre-fall 2015 collection, as it appeared mixed and matched with other fabrics, as well as acted as the primary material for entire pieces. Black leather was skillfully stitched and embroidered into the tops, skirts and dresses, looking undeniably cool and unique. We also saw a stylish biker leather jacket and another one with Versace patterns on the sleeves, a mini leather skirt, a zip-up elongated jacket with the Grecian patterns carved on it, and in another case patterned leather was used as a wide belt worn over a black fur coat.
With her Versace pre-fall 2015 collection Donatella managed to surprise a lot, giving a modern spin to her traditional designs through new shapes and colors.
