Christian Dior Spring/Summer 2015 Collection – Paris Fashion Week
Paris Fashion Week would not be as glamorous without one of the biggest names of the French fashion industry ” Christian Dior, and the super-sumptuous Christian Dior spring/summer 2015 collection! Dior was the man to revolutionize the fashion world turning fashion into a form of art. Today, about 50 years after the death of the French master, the label Christian Dior continues to be one of the most famous and demanded brands all around the world, providing competition for such fashion giants as Burberry, Prada, Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent and Gucci.
Christian Dior collections generate much hype and speculation even before they are out. And the Christian Dior spring/summer 2015 collection was no exception. Everybody was waiting impatiently to see what new trends and ideas Raf Simons had to offer for the next season. And we can assuredly state that we were not disappointed, not even a bit. This time the French trendsetter brand had opted for a generally minimalistic collection with simple white pants and matching collared tops, shirts with cropped sleeves, simple A-line dresses in black. Of particular interest were parachute shape white skirts decorated with small floral patterns scattered on all the length of the pieces.
At the beginning of the show, the dresses were mainly long-sleeved but rather thin and delicate. Some of them were left loose and flowy, while others had been fastened around waists with wide belts. Overall, the Christian Dior spring/summer 2015 collection was imbued with “belted” pieces. We were dazzled by the well cut long leather coats with belts, worn over white pants, white jumpsuits with subtle florals and black leather belts, and the asymmetrical dresses in dark brown leather.
There was a lot to see and admire at the next stage of the show when the catwalk was taken over by storm with black pleated skirts and high collared white jackets, patterned dress jackets with notched necklines, two piece suits consisting of straight pants and V-neck jackets (not the interesting effect the side buttons make), high waisted white maxi skirts with lacy tops, high collared loose dresses and so on.
Simons also showcased different takes on layering, where color contrast played a leading role. Knee-length white shorts combined with pale brown textured tops were worn under what appeared to be dark blue coats with cropped sleeves, black high waisted shorts came combined with orange blouses topped with long jackets, and we also saw a combination of black and white tops and shorts worn under long embroidered magenta vests and so on.
At the end of the show we all had our eyes trained on all-white pieces followed by outfits set on the contrast of white with a bright color (blue, yellow, magenta or maroon). Simons had lavishly used satin to design gorgeous coat-dresses, and colorful long vests that were worn over long cotton shorts and matching tops in black or white.
We will all agree that it is by no means easy to be the creative designer of a brand like Christian Dior, as there’s undoubtedly a certain reputation and quality to maintain. But we will all also probably agree that with his Christian Dior spring/summer 2015 collection Raf Simons managed to meet the expectations and needs of the demanding Dior-loving public!
