Donna Karan Spring/Summer 2015 Collection – New York Fashion Week
The Donna Karan spring/summer 2015 collection put the theme and the style of the clothes showcased at New York Fashion Week spring 2015 very clear: “Time to show your colors and paint the town with urban chi.” Street art served as the basic source of inspiration for Donna Karan to create this utterly artistic line of clothes, which represented shades of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s works mixed with a certain Parisian influence that gave such a big dose of femininity and grace to the designs. There you could instantly fall in love with the interesting graffiti-inspired brushstroke prints, the wonderful color splashes mostly in subdued hues and the enchanting fifties mood that gave so much attitude to the entire collection!
From the beginning of the show up to the end, one could feel the Céline-like attitude on the runway, which may have been because of the color and print choice, as well as the effortless style of the clothes presented. The big dose of femininity and elegance is the next key feature of this utterly desirable collection.
The show started with a black and white art romance, put as minimalist black crop tops and flared or pencil white skirts with black brushstroke prints, an elegant V-neck flared-skirt white dress reaching below the knees and using the same prints. A couple of monochrome and strict looks came right after, using only black or white hues from head to toe.
It was exactly here that the street art inspired mood took the lead, when the models walked down the runway wearing meticulously printed looks, featuring the same style belted shirtdresses and fifties inspired skirts, popped-collar shirts and crop tops. There were also a couple of eye-popping total red looks, again being below the knee or tea length classy dresses. Generally speaking, there was no room for pants, as throughout the entire show we saw just two pairs of culottes, one being in black and the other one featuring the same artistic prints and patterns. It was a line dedicated to revealing all the femininity and grace of a woman, thus featuring only classy skirts and dresses.
The next curious detail about the Donna Karan spring/summer 2015 collection is the range of towering straw hats and super oversized ones, which gave so much personality to those evening pieces and classic daywear items. Though it’s hard imagine anyone wearing these whimsical hats in the streets, the entire Donna Karan collection is flooded with charming designs ideal for polishing both your day and night looks to perfection. Pretty confidently, we claim that the Donna Karan spring/summer 2015 collection show was one of the most successful and memorable ones unveiled throughout the new spring season of fashion weeks!
