Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2013 RTW ” New York Fashion Week
One instantly gets the feeling of being in a jail from the very first glance at the Marc Jacobs spring/summer 2013 collection demonstrated at New York Fashion Week. It’s all about bold stripes in black, white, beige and red, checks and zigzag prints that come paired with sexy pixie hair and perfectly emphasized eyes, which together create a youthful vibe that much characteristic of the 1960s style. As Marc Jacobs stated in an interview, the upcoming spring will be about restraint and “very, very brutal. Brutal in its simplicity. That’s our new word for the season.’
The Marc Jacobs spring/summer 2013 collection was all about two opposing styles ” tiny mini skirts were in contrast with ultra-long pants and maxi dresses, bold crop tops were juxtaposed with modest below the knee straight skirts worn with a smart top and a long blazer. There were both perfectly polished monochrome looks and boldly printed ones, featuring lots of stripes, leopard prints, micro sequined checkerboards and fun Mickey Mouse prints here and there on the long-sleeved cropped tops. For the coming spring, Jacobs cut tailored jackets short, while pencil skirts or pants were worn low the waist to accentuate the bare midriffs. Another trend spotted was the sheer shirts worn over matching bras.
Overall, the Marc Jacobs spring/summer 2013 collection was quite subdued and featured versatile hues of black, white and beige that were sometimes spiced up with red splashes. The clothes were sexy and bold and the looks were smartly finished off with matching handbags and shoes. No wonder, it was one of the most timeless, but also edgy, feminine, yet fun collections during the NYFW!
