Donna Karan Spring/Summer 2013 RTW ” New York Fashion Week
After demonstrating an edgier, bolder and sportier contemporary line, DKNY, Donna Karan decided to present a romantic Donna at New York Fashion Week with the Donna Karan spring/summer 2013 collection, titled “Sunrise, Sunset’. While the first line was inspired by the daily hustle and bustle of her hometown and the working NY girls, for the Donna Karan spring collection, the designer managed to evoke the serenity of NYC ” the calm mornings and romantic sunsets. The result was a range of breathtaking, absolutely gorgeous dresses and mesmerizing colors color-dyed to feign nature.
“Inspired by the awe of coming into the city, light reflected on building and glass. The atmosphere of a shifting, dappling sun and sky. The bigger than life elements of the beach”water, sand rocks, the volumen of clouds‚Äö√Ñ√∂‚àö√묨‚àÇ a collection to reflect a woman’s sensual nature with urban modernity and ease.’ This is the way Karan herself describes her line and there couldn’t have been a better way to express the mood of the collection.
Karan set the tone of the collection with the very first separates presented that came in muted hues. There were several folded jackets over full skirts, jersey dresses and jackets that opened the show in an elegant manner. As the show started to develop, Karan demonstrated a play on volume through constructions. A delicate transparent dress literally flew down from a stricter bra-like jersey top. Dresses were perfectly structured and came in a beach-y palette, consisting of grey, sea blue and sandy beige tones.
For evening, the Donna Karan spring/summer 2013 collection showed a number of stunning pieces, such as a sea-form embroidered and sequined gown or a sleeveless black gown with abstract prints in a sandy tone. The models walked down the runway wearing messy high ponytails with the ends tucked in, while the makeup was kind of other-worldly with fuchsia rimmed eyes and eyelashes painted in hot pink. That was the effect of sunrise and sunset!
