Rag & Bone Spring/Summer 2013 RTW ” New York Fashion Week
With Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Karlie Kloss walking the runway, the Rag & Bone fashion show could hardly fail, let alone the gorgeous designs demonstrated. New York Fashion Week would never be so stunning let there not be the Rag & Bone spring/summer 2013 collection. Marcus Wainwright, the creative director of the house, looked back to his childhood years for inspiration, when he grew up in England and loved to watch the Paris-Dakar Rally, the annual off-road auto race between Paris and Dakar, Senegal, in which “These crazy guys are flying through the dunes on massive trucks and race cars,’ he said. As a result, we could see a range of tomboy, sexy looks spiced up with feminine details.
In the upcoming warm season, the Rag & Bone girl is bold and self-confident and walks with oil-slicked hair and a fresh face, wearing shirt trails untucked and her buttons undone. She loves to layer fabrics and accessorize looks with bold sunnies, shoes and bags. But she is also feminine, even when she is wearing a dress with oversized pockets hanging loosely, or when her lime green leather comes carelessly cracked.
The Rag & Bone spring/summer 2013 collection builds a beautiful contrast between tough and delicate pieces, mixing breezy silk and cotton with combat, for instance. The traditional English tailoring and the military motifs talked about the Rag & Bone signature style. There was a big accent put on white, which was the major color of the collection, spiced up here and there with electric green, cobalt blue, red, coral, gray and black. Judging from the perfectly layered and styled looks and the atmosphere on the catwalk, it’s safe to say that Neville and Wainwright had all their bases covered!
