Does Harvey Weinstein Profit From Marchesa?

Does Harvey Weinstein Profit From Marchesa

After multiple allegations for sexual misconduct against the disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, his wife Georgina Chapman filed for divorce. Many actresses, models, and other female celebrities accused Weinstein of taking inappropriate advances and the entire situation led to a movement that took over many industries, not just the show business one. The movie mogul had to immediately step down from his own company, but it seems that Georgina Chapman of Marchesa is not giving up on her business.

Let’s put this straight: Are Harvey Weinstein and Marchesa connected in any way? Despite Georgina Chapman’s statement that Harvey Weinstein has no involvement in Marchesa, according to Daily Beast, there is a connection between him and the brand. The Daily Beast’s “investigation has found a series of connections between Marchesa and a company listed on court documents as ‘doing business as’ Marchesa.” In copies of documents, the publication has obtained, Harvey Weinstein is listed as a “president’ and “officer’ of SeaMarch Creations Inc. Furthermore, in another listing, the two companies are listed as one, Marchesa/SeaMarch Creations Inc. In case you didn’t notice Marchesa and SeaMarch are actually anagrams of one another. There is also a joined LinkedIn profile for both of the companies, while Marchesa also has a separate one. The publication found a few more connections between these two companies, but a spokesperson for Marchesa denied to answer their detailed questions and only issued a short statement:

“Ms. Chapman, Ms. Craig, nor anyone else at Marchesa has any involvement at all in SeaMarch. SeaMarch has no involvement at all in Marchesa Holdings, LLC.’

According to multiple sources, Harvey Weinstein is the one who built the brand owned by his estranged wife Champan and designer Keren Craig. In an interview with Vogue in 2013, Weinstein himself admitted his fair share in Marchesa: ‘Maybe I helped, but just very, very little, with Renée Zellweger.’ The actress was one of the most popular in the industry when she flaunted a Marchesa dress at the premiere of her Weinstein-produced Bridget Jones film in 2004. However, according to sources, Weinstein actually threatened to sabotage the careers of actresses including Sienna Miller and Felicity Huffman if they don’t wear Marchesa on the red carpet.

The brand has lost a lot of its shine after the scandal. Instead of its regular fashion shows, Marchesa opted for digital presentations of the collections and has been avoiding press releases ever since the Weinstein scandal. However, recently the fashion house made a surprising comeback on the red carpet. Actress Scarlett Johansson donned a gown by the brand at the 2018 Met Gala and publicly showed her support for Marchesa in statements. It looks like only time will tell whether Marchesa and Harvey Weinstein are connected.

Georgina Chapman’s Marchesa Cancels NYFW Show

Georgina Chapman, the now-estranged wife of the disgraced movie producer Harvey Weinstein reportedly canceled the New York Fashion Week show for her brand Marchesa that was set to happen in February. The fashion show was scheduled for February 14, the final day of NYFW. This was supposed to be Chapman’s first public appearance since her husband received multiple allegations of sexual misconduct. The Marchesa designer has been in hiding ever since the Harvey scandal. Sources claim that Georgina thought she could finally make a public appearance, but she got too scared to go through the event.

Instead of a classic runway show, the brand will hold a digital presentation.

“Marchesa is looking forward to presenting their Fall 18 collection in an updated format this season,’ a Marchesa spokesperson revealed to PEOPLE.

Anyway, the digital presentation is most certainly a way for Georgina Chapman and her business partner Keren Craig to stay away from the public eye. Although Harvey Weinstein was the one accused of unforgivable actions, his wife is under fire too. It’s well-known that Georgina Chapman founded Marchesa the year she met Harvey Weinstein. Along with Chapman and Craig, Harvey Weinstein also funded Marchesa in 2004. Since then the label was worn by numberless celebrities on the red carpet. Many leading Hollywood ladies admitted that Harvey pressured them to wear Marchesa on famous events. Many people find it hard to believe that Chapman wasn’t aware of Weinstein’s unacceptable behavior during their 10-year marriage.

All these things affected the brand Marchesa big time. First of all, because there isn’t a single celebrity who would wear Marchesa’s designs ever again. Even retailers don’t want to be associated with the brand anymore. Just for the records, the renowned Helzberg Diamonds canceled a collaboration with Marchesa in October. Other retailers also claimed that regular people lost their interest in Marchesa after the big scandal.

Despite all these facts that don’t go in favor of Marchesa, the brand continued with its business. Just recently Chapman and Craig unveiled 38 lookbook photos of their Marchesa and Marchesa Notte pre-fall 2018 collections. Anyway, both designers continued to keep a low profile refusing to hold press appointments for the new collections. It’s still unclear what is the next move for Marchesa since the designers in charge are in hiding and no celebrity is willing to promote the brand. The now-canceled comeback on New York Fashion Week is another proof that it won’t be easy for Marchesa to get back on track.

Marchesa Bridal Fall 2018 Collection at NYBFW

Marchesa Bridal Fall 2018 Collection at NYBFW 31

Marchesa‘s founders Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig were inspired by the past and the future for their new bridal collection. The two designers presented their Fall 2018 bridal collection during the second day of the New York Bridal Fashion Week. Even from the start of the BFW, there was a very dominant new trend. Most of the designers showed contemporary dresses that are ideal for fashionable ladies. Since getting married is not only about having a Cinderella-like wedding dress anymore, most brides are searching for the gown that screams fashion.

“We were looking at the notion of transformation — the idea that a woman might not want just one look at their wedding and they don’t have time to change. So think of a short skirt getting an overskirt that wraps around to create a gown or sleeves that come off,” Craig told AOL Lifestyle.

“It’s that romantic notion of when you were a child and you played dressed up and imagined that you were getting married — the misty, hazy romance of those memories,” Georgina added.

The best thing about the Bridal Marchesa Fall 2018 collection is that the designer duo thought about every single moment of the wedding ceremony. They offered versatile designs that the bride could adapt for her pre-wedding party, cocktails and even for the events after the big day. All of the dresses were in a classic white color, and the stunning corded lace featured 3D effect.

Getting married in a Marchesa gown is every girl’s dream. Their wedding gowns are made to leave a strong impression. In their latest collection, you will find the dreamy voluminous dresses that feature intricate lace and embroidery. This time there were only a few strapless gowns with large skirts covered with breath-taking lace.

There were also two designs that stood out. The first one was a short dress that featured a chic train and puffy sleeves. The train was modifiable, so the bride could remove it or place it in the front or on the side. Another bold choice was the simple mini dress made of lace and puffy sleeves. This is the ideal design for brides who are looking for a unique number for their wedding.

Chapman and Craig wanted to create a bridal line that will merge the past and future. They most certainly succeed in their intentions to provide wedding gowns for all types of future brides.

Marchesa Resort 2018 Collection

The American artist who specialized in stage and film Tony Duquette was the main inspiration for the Resort 2018 Collection by Marchesa. For years Duquette turned empty spaces into out-of-this-world scenes. He always included elements of drama and lavish details in his work. The creative duo behind Marchesa Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig were driven by Duquette’s motto “More is more’ and they delivered a lavish and dramatic Resort 2018 collection. The collection is full of vivid colors, detailed embellishments, and interesting patterns.

The palette of the collection is rich with some of the season’s hottest colors. Chapman and Craig didn’t miss the chance to incorporate the infamous fuchsia color in their designs. The hot fuchsia color is a major trend both on the runways and in the beauty industry this season. Marchesa incorporated fuchsia-hued details in some of the designs and also created entire pieces in this color. The breath-taking voluminous gown in soft fuchsia color enriched with massive 3D floral decorations will turn heads whenever you show up. For less formal events there is the gorgeous off the shoulder midi dress with voluminous floral details wrapped around the shoulders.

Marchesa Bridal Spring 2018 Collection

Marchesa Bridal Spring 2018 Collection

Here we are with one of the spring 2018 bridal season’s most anticipated shows, Marchesa‘s! The Marchesa bridal spring 2018 collection‘s presentation left everybody in awe, also evoking naturalistically chic vibes, which were inspired by Britain’s fairytale-like gardens.

Marchesa Bridal Spring 2018 Collection

“We were thinking about the English bride, but it’s still quintessentially Marchesa,’ explained Georgina Chapman backstage, confirming Marchesa’s signature aesthetics will always play a focal point in each bridal collection, season after season.

In this specific bridal collection of Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, Marchesa’s signature aesthetics were predominantly expressed in the timelessly chic silhouettes, which, of course, were all about mermaid figures, and unconventionally little details, with Craig and Chapman outdoing themselves with touches of untraditional black accents added here and there, this time around.

Like Reem Acra, yet in a more subtle way, Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig played with a sort of unconventional yin and yang leitmotif throughout the entire collection, adding contrasting, yet always elegant, black belts to most of the proposals. One shorter cocktail dress went further with this black-infused motif featuring contrasting black hems, too, not to mention the fact that the designer decided to complement it with a pair of high-heeled black sandals with black furry appliqués and black lace detailing we bet many will use for their big day, for sure.

Marchesa Bridal Spring 2018 Collection

Marchesa Bridal Spring 2018 Collection

Black touches aside, this Marchesa spring 2018 bridal collection presented three other distinctive patterns that are actually already defining and shaping the spring 2018 bridal season. First and foremost, Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig toyed with the proportions thanks to some well-structured layers of ruches, which helped add a jocose dynamicity specifically to the bottoms of the gowns.

Secondly, this collection infused the runway with the aforementioned “English Garden’ pattern thanks to cascades of exquisitely embroidered floral motifs on both the tops and skirts, which ultimately added the most romantically elegant touch to the entire collection.

Last but not least, Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig’s Marchesa bridal spring 2018 collection also ventured into the more conceptual side of fashion (which is something we saw in Viktor and Rolf’s spring 2018 bridal collection as well), experimenting with asymmetrical lines and exaggerated layers, too.

Other appealing patterns included Marchesa’s standard loads of tulle and cheerful bows on the sleeves, which those who love conventionally romantic bridal proposals will surely fall in love with.

Although Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig’s Marchesa bridal spring 2018 line-up included “only’ 15 proposals, the designer managed to fully represent almost any bride-to-be’s soul, from the most artistically conceptual to the unapologetically romantic. If your big day comes next year and you still haven’t made up your mind when it comes to the ceremony’s biggest element ” the dress, we recommend having a look at collection!

Marchesa Fall/Winter 2017-2018 RTW Show Made Us Travel to Imperial China

Marchesa Fall/ Winter 2017-2018 RTW Collection – NYFW

For their Marchesa fall/winter 2017-2018 ready-to-wear collection, Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig travelled far, far away, bringing floral patterns and exotic references to New York Fashion Week.

Marchesa Fall/ Winter 2017-2018 RTW Collection

For Marchesa’s unconventional take on the fall/winter 2017 season, designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig travelled all the way back in time to Imperial China, completely immersing themselves into its pompous patterns and rich colors. As a result, they managed to perfectly combine Marchesa’s signature delicate motifs with Imperial China’s opulence, keeping a strong synergy between both patterns and then refining everything with cute floral embellishments.

Influences aside, the Marchesa fall/winter 2017-18 ready-to-wear collection could be regarded as a standard Marchesa lineup, with all of its items exuding strong Marchesa-appropriate vibes. Garden-inspired gowns, floral headpieces and soft pastel shades played an important role throughout the line-up, delighting us with something familiar and coherently structured (although not necessarily winter-approved).

Marchesa Fall/ Winter 2017-2018 RTW Collection

Marchesa Fall/ Winter 2017-2018 RTW Collection

What came as rather surprising was the mixture of Chinoiseries the creative duo implemented on almost all of the staples, and which are indeed something we usually don’t get to see in a Marchesa ready-to-wear collection. Whether it was about signature Marchesa designs, or more Chinese-inspired ones, this ready-to-wear collection could be overall described as predominantly formal, with the evening proposals dominating the scene.

Long, opulent frocks made their appearance onstage taking the breath of those who were watching the show away, while at the same time surely giving them more than one inspiration for the next red carpet events (as it usually happens with Marchesa’s runway shows, the first row was studded with stars and famous personalities).

All in all, the Marchesa fall 2017 collection revolved around hourglass figures and waist lines, with either layers of cloths or sinuous curve-hugging silhouettes enhancing both the models’ and the proposals’ lines. The colors used inevitably helped accentuate the figures too, especially when it came to Imperial China’s classic reds and bright greens.

When not showcasing rich colors, Chapman and Craig opted for softer lilacs, beiges and nudes, leaving it up to the cascades of floral embellishments to spice up the shades. “We mixed in new color stories that we haven’t done before,’ Keren Craig explained backstage. “And we had a lot of fun.’

When it comes to the actual figures, here Chapman and Craig decided to not discombobulate them too much, either. Those who usually look forward to Marchesa’s runway shows, will pleasantly find signature mermaid gowns and ultra-fluffy tulle frocks in this collection too, as the directors canalized all of their creative efforts into revisiting the necklines, here adorned either with oversized bows or asymmetrical cuts.

Although not revolutionary as other fall 2017 collections unveiled for this New York Fashion Week, such as, for instance, Beckham’s, the Marchesa fall/winter 2017-18 ready-to-wear collection was equally interesting in terms of fashions.

Marchesa Pre-Fall 2017 Collection Unveils Fabergé Egg-Inspired Dream Dresses

Marchesa Pre-Fall 2017 Collection

One of the most anticipated pre-fall 2017 collections is here, and it won’t disappoint you! The Marchesa pre-fall 2017 collection is, as usual, all about Marchesa‘s standard motifs, yet here translated to a more versatile, yet always high-end, dream-array of Fabergé references and separates.

Marchesa Pre-Fall 2017 Collection

For their Marchesa pre-fall 2017 collection, fashion designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig had a clear plan going on through their minds while designing the garments, and it even brought them to another country, namely Russia, as well as to another époque, i. e. the Baroque era.

In doing so, they also challenged themselves with new perspectives on fashion and Marchesa as a fashion house itself, which were those of delivering a collection that could show how skillfully they “tried to be quite commercially minded, and we’ve gone more heavily into separates,’ as Chapman note.

With the separates being more “commercial’, the designers embellished the proposals in the best Marchesa-inspired way thanks to Peter Carl Fabergé’s notorious limited edition eggs, created by him along with his company between 1885 and 1917. Initially crafted for the Russian tsars (they still are a recognized symbol of the Romanovs’ dynasty), Fabergé’s eggs got inspired by the artist’s travels to the Hermitage, one of Saint Petersburg’s main museums, wherein Fabergé immersed himself while looking for sources of inspiration.

Marchesa Pre-Fall 2017 Collection

Marchesa Pre-Fall 2017 Collection

Opulent and fairytale-like, Farbegé’s eggs combine top-notch materials with intricate embroideries, often close to the Baroque’s art and architecture. Out of the 50 eggs the House of Fabergé made, only 43 survived, but we could fairly state that the Marchesa pre-fall 2017 collection could be sort of regarded as a rebirth of such designs, here figuratively transposed to fashion.

For their 32-piece collection, Chapman and Craig mainly focused on dust, soft colors, such as pink, lilac and golden beiges, as well as on intricate lace and bejeweled embroideries that mainly depict fields of luxurious flowers, only to interrupt them with more rich and vivid shades, such as fuchsia, applied to sleeker fabrics and structured figures.

Although being all about peplum cuts and princess-like gowns, most of the Marchesa pre-fall 2017 collection’s proposals feature layers of structured cuts and pleats that are nothing but breathtaking, and also exude Marchesa’s signature Hollywood-inspired take on fashion.

Marchesa Pre-Fall 2017 Collection

Marchesa Pre-Fall 2017 Collection

Although being primarily red carpet-ready, a great deal of the proposals is also meant to be worn during more “casual’ occasions or at least on less pompous events. Having decided to explore the world of separates, Chapman and Craig’s collection could be regarded as a well-thought and balanced mixture of high-end garments and more versatile ones, with the latter (such as peplum tops and skirts) meant to be mix-and-matched with one another. Other outfits even feature day-to-day silhouettes, such as flared lines and miniskirts, with an unexpected take on cocktail dresses that we greatly appreciate.

Whether it is all about ‘casual’ looks or standard Marchesa soigné statements, Marchesa will always keep on amazing us with its astounding fashion evolutions and creations.

Marchesa Fall 2017 Bridal Collection Embraces Greek Goddess Beauty

Marchesa Fall 2017 Bridal Collection

Marchesa‘s fall 2017 bridal collection was styled with the intention of making their brides feel like immeasurably beautiful and powerful by designing their new fall line around the Greek goddess of the Dawn. Yep, you read that right; the entire collection is meant to make a bride feel like the goddess who brings the first rays of light to morning. After showing notes of the Grecian style we all grew up seeing in history books, it was not a huge surprise to find out that Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig found a Greek Goddess to be their muse.

Marchesa Fall 2017 Bridal Collection

As Georgina Chapman told WWD, they “were thinking about goddesses,’ applying the thought not only here, but also to their spring 2017 ready-to-wear collection. Commenting further about her fall 2017 bridal collection, Georgina Chapman added: “And really, that’s our ambition: to make a bride feel like a goddess. It was perfect synergy.’

It is a very poetic and romantic notion, if you are not the type to get entrenched into conversations about the background too much. As an example, Eos drove out the mists of midnight with rays of sunlight on a chariot. What bride doesn’t want to feel like she literally lights up the room?

Brilliantly, the bridal collection was displayed in front of huge windows full of natural light to further drive the point home that Marchesa’s bridal collection for fall 2017 was inspired by Eos, Goddess of the Dawn, sister to Helios and Selene. Eos was a good pick, as most Greek gods and goddesses as with the stories of heroes are surrounded by tragedy.

Marchesa Fall 2017 Bridal Collection

On the darker side of things she was supposedly cursed by Aphrodite to have a bottomless desire for handsome young men, although did marry a Trojan prince whom she petitioned immortality for. The tragedy here being that she forgot to petition for eternal youth along with immortality, he withered away with old age only to become her own personal Jiminy Cricket. But I digress.

In a clever homage to their muse, who was known to be ‘rosy fingered’ in her descriptions, Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig brilliantly wrapped rose vines around the models wrists as an accessory, which can be seen in look 4. In almost all of the cases, three-dimensional floral earrings dangled from the ears of each model. The 3-dimensional appliques and embroideries on all of the gowns were really stunning as well.

Kudos to Marchesa for not creating only white gowns, really boosting the dawn narrative with incredibly light hints of yellow and taupe to absorb and boost the use of natural light to the advantage of the overall look! This decision gave the gowns a beautiful glow and further accented the brides’ silhouettes with this feature blended into fit and flare and off-the-shoulder designs.

Some of the dresses featured classic ball gown silhouettes and circle skirts for serious volume, trimmed in horse hair (an ode to Eos’ chariot perhaps?), though it is clear Marchesa thought about many current bridal requests for lighter, sultrier flair. Some of the dresses included beautiful corsetry, lace bustiers and side illusion panels and even a high low skirt.

Overall it is obvious how much thought and romantic notion were mixed into the design process for the Marchesa fall 2017 bridal collection and many brides are certain to be appreciative of this.

Marchesa’s Spring/Summer 2017 Collection Brought Sunrise to The Runway

Marchesa Spring/ Summer 2017 Collection – NYFW

The beauty and elegance of Marchesa is often unrivalled, with the Marchesa spring/summer 2017 collection being no less a top contender for the red carpet than any other designer line-up found on the New York Fashion Week runway these days. There is something positively ethereal about the sheerness of the pieces that have been presented, from the halter dress in gentle moonlight white, complete with a cape over the shoulders to highlight the moon princess appeal, to the ruffle-accented silvery dress that features a massive slit up the right leg, appearing like a really sexy nightgown for the tastefully rich.

Marchesa Spring/ Summer 2017 Collection

There are tiered silvery dresses and sheaths that fall to the floor with gentle appliques throughout, feathery concoctions of dyed tulle, as well as mermaid silhouettes that feature the flowers of the earth. There is something distinctly royal about it all, with an ancient meets modern feel to it, the thin straps and plunging necklines adding to the allure of one piece after another, the colors in soft pastels.

When it comes to the sleeves, there is no specific style that the Marchesa spring 2017 collection sticks to. It was frothy and extravagant as a whole, but the combination of off-the-shoulder, halter top, thin spaghetti straps and thicker tulle, strapless and short sleeved, as well as a few with shoulder cutouts certainly was intriguing. The necklines were generally open, showing off décolletage, and sometimes a good amount of skin around the bosom as they plunged down low.

Marchesa Spring/ Summer 2017 Collection

We even saw a piece or two with crisscross chest designs that left the abdomen open to the world. The gowns were delightful and most certainly meant for the red carpet, galas and special occasions with golden reflections and dark midnight accents. Add in a frothy cape towards the end and it becomes as royal as a piece can get.

Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig have certainly outdone themselves and they did not have to reinvent the wheel for it either. It is a successful collection that captures the beauty of a woman’s figure, with everything entirely feminine thrown into the mix.

We see everything from sunrise to midnight, pieces that would be fitting for royalty coming from both the light and dark side of the moon. Sensuality seems to be at the top of the game, while gorgeous embroideries will certainly appeal to all the ladies in any age group, that mint tulle column with the fluttering sleeves and the iridescent accents and lace trim standing out especially well for the younger audience.

Marchesa Spring/ Summer 2017 Collection

Marchesa Spring/ Summer 2017 Collection

Fit and flare looks were a dime a dozen, while the 34-piece Marchesa spring/summer 2017 runway collection included some side cutouts, bra strap backs and lots of stretched silk crepe. It was not excessive as we might have expected it to be, and it certainly was not plain either.

It was that perfect balance where the Marchesa brand can see itself thrive. Absolutely loved every second of this magnificent show and looking forward to seeing these incredible masterpieces adorning the lovely bodies of major celebrities around the world.
