MAC x Chromat: An Out of This World Galactic Collection
The makeup giant MAC is releasing a new exclusive capsule collection. The collection is a result of the collaboration between MAC and the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. This Fund was first established in 2003 and since then it has offered many prizes and mentorships to creative designers. The main goal of the Fund is to stimulate and cultivate new designers and help them with their careers. The council announces contests and it has eminent judges such as Anna Wintour and Dianne von Furstenberg that help with the decisions.
In the contest that was first published last year, designers were supposed to create a unique and bold makeup capsule collection, that has never been seen before. The collection was supposed to be appealing to everyone, but also very versatile and colorful. The makeup line should be packed inside of one bag. Today the winner was finally revealed. Becca McCharen-Tran is the lucky designer that got the chance to create the wonderful galactic collection with MAC. Her brand Chromat had to compete against five other finalists, and at the end, they won the prestigious collaboration and an award of $50,000.
Becca is famous for her unique brand Chromat, that sells architectural athletic wear and swimwear. She is an amazing young lady, with a degree in architecture which you can notice in her designs. Becca has already presented several lines, but this is her first collaboration with a makeup brand. Her studio is based in Brooklyn and so far many celebrities such as Beyoncé, Madonna and Taylor Swift have rocked pieces from the Chromat collections. Becca’s latest collaboration with MAC resembles her unique style and her ability to create eye-catching and attractive pieces.
“Becca McCharen of Chromat designs for today’s urban visionary, proudly expressing an inclusive stance on gender, tech, and athleticism. In partnership with the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, MAC chose Chromat to present its first color collection of energetic hues. Complete with Chromat’s architecturally inspired bionic 3D-print packaging, this is the future of assertive beauty,” says MAC representative about the collaboration.
McCharen likes to experiment with her personal style and with the pieces that she designs. You can see her models looking amazing while wearing galactic makeup, flashing neon and LED bras and unique accessories with futuristic design. For her, it’s all about being different from others. The whole collection has a very out-of-this-world look and it’s made for the strong and fearless women.
“We don’t make basics. It’s all about a strong gaze, direct eye contact, and a powerful stomp on the runway for us. The face tells the story of being unafraid.”- McCharen says in her interview for Vogue.
The collaboration resulted in eight makeup products for eyes and lips. They are colored in strong galactic blue and bold red. There are two amazing lipsticks, one of them cyan blue (Shockvalue Lipstick in Bright Aqua Blue) and the other one is flaming red (Augmented Reality Lipstick in Strong Candy Red). The lipsticks will retail at $17 each. The eyeshadow palette (Chromatbabe Super Pack Eyeshadow Palette) has six eyeshadows including a cyan blue color, dark blue, two sparkling grays, fire red, and a sparkling deep blue, and it will sell for $32. Makeup lovers will also be able to enjoy a blue eye pencil (Technakohl Liner in Metropolis Blue) for $17, a vibrant blue mascara (Zoom Lash Mascara) for $18, metallic blue gel (Pro Longwear Fluidline in Aeros Blue) for $17, blue glitter (Glitter in Reflects Turquatic) for $22, and an angled brush (Brush 263 Small Angle) for $20.
“For me, having personal time in the bathroom with colors and lines is really a self-regeneration. It’s so transformative.”- says Becca about the collection.
The packaging of the products is in a strong blue color decorated with grid elements that were borrowed from Chromat’s Fall 2013 Collection. The packaging is referred to as “bionic 3D print packaging” by the representatives.
The capsule collection will be available in selected MAC stores on June 29, and worldwide on July 1 at maccosmetics.com. It will be available until August 10. Keep in mind that the collection is exclusive and limited-edition, so you better hurry up if you would like to put your hands on these products.
