United Colors of Benetton Announces First Designer Collaboration and It’s With Stella Jean
For the first time ever, Italian brand United Colors of Benetton is about to launch its first capsule collection with one of the fashion industry’s most promising artists, namely Haitian-Italian designer Stella Jean. The United Colors of Benetton by Stella Jean designer collaboration was announced a few hours ago, and is about to drop in selected stored and online at benetton.com at the beginning of December.
Synonymous with “made in Italy”, Benetton has been distinguishing itself for its colorful patterns and overall casual-chic figures, quickly gaining popularity internationally as well. Neither a fast fashion retailer, nor a high fashion house, Benetton could be regarded as the ultimate Queen of the “in between fashion houses”, with this very first designer collaboration confirming it.
Rome-based Stella Jean is, in fact, one of the industry’s most promising names (both in terms of art and fashion), and has so far not only won a Vogue Italia Talent Competition, but also gained Giorgio Armani’s seal of approval (he showcased her spring/summer 2014 collection at his 550- Teatro show space in Milan, in 2014).
Stella Jean’s bold prints and ethnic motifs keep on conquering many people’s hearts, and almost look like meant to be mixed and matched with Benetton’s. Their similarities seem to have a long history of common points, such as those of sustainability and celebration of different cultures.
“As Benetton begins another long journey in world fashion alongside a forward-thinking, talented creative, it issues an invitation to happiness, to a mix & match of styles and cultures – all in the name of respect for all minorities, under the protection of benevolent spirit guides,” stated the Treviso-based company in an official press release, which also revealed the Benetton by Stella Jean’s fil rouge.
“A reoccurring motif of the collection is inspired by the words “natal” and “native” – that of the birthplace, roots and pride in expressing one’s culture to the full – also in the use of costumes, decorations and symbols – and a meeting place, the final destination of a long journey made up of images and influences.”
The United Colors of Benetton by Stella Jean capsule collection sees Jean’s recurring patterns being mainly mixed with Benetton’s signature knitwear, with everything included from skirts to sweaters to coats. Some of the collaboration’s accessories are even made “with a community of Haitian and Ethiopian artisans, in keeping with her philosophy – shared with Benetton – of socio-cultural mixing and the revival of traditional crafts.”
Whether you are looking for a one-of-a-kind it-item to purchase as a Christmas gift, or you love to collect unique staples that are both refined and sustainable, purchasing one of the 15 pieces from the United Colors of Benetton by Stella Jean capsule collection might indeed end up being the best choice!
