Thakoon Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection – New York Fashion Week
Warmth and comfort are the first things you are going to feel looking through the brand new Thakoon fall/winter 2015-2016 collection that was triumphantly unveiled on the fourth day of New York Fashion Week. Inspired by the early 1990s, Thakoon Panichguli’s fall line offers something different for the cold season than the popular Sixties Mod and Seventies styles we have managed to see quite occasionally on the runways of the recent fashion week. It’s a collection of bohemian and crafty rustic pieces, which look surprisingly polished and elegant thanks to the lean mid-calf silhouettes and innovative outerwear designs used. There is something futuristic and innovative about the entire line, which is vivid in the small details and creative layering techniques utilized.
Graphic motifs and vertical bouclé stripes in the shades of blue, brown and rust are the key points of the entire Thakoon fall/winter 2015-2016 collection. Exactly this way the show started bringing a cozy blue knitted turtleneck with brown stripes and black graphic motifs worn with a knee-length straight skirt and an oversized color-blocked fur coat, which screamed warmth and comfort from afar. The same materials, colors and shapes had been used for the following looks as well, of which we especially loved the fur vest topping the printed chiffon dress coming in different shades of brown and featuring an interesting strap of brown fur on the bust line to bring the two edges of the vest together. The same vest comes in more neutral brown shades worn over a crisp white shirtdress with interesting cut-outs on the sleeves.
The combination of contrasting materials is the next characteristic detail of the Thakoon fall 2015 rtw line, wherein fluffy fur is matched with delicate chiffon and knitwear is worn with soft chiffon skirts. This creates a rich texture that looks so amazing in combination with the sequins, macramés, patchworks, embroidery and fine silks used for an array of statement-making pieces. While such techniques make the daywear pieces look pretty shaggy and cozy ideal for the cold winter months, the eveningwear designs are kept more ethereal and feminine featuring romantic midnight blue tones, sequin fringe and bold plunging necklines.
Thakoon’s iconic cotton shirting makes an appearance in different forms throughout the collection, of which especially striking are the oversized and elongated shirts with long tails twisted into a knot on the front part. They come matched with tailored pants and in case of one look the shirt features color block details mixing white and baby blue tones and is worn under a sleeveless floral printed crop top that makes the layering game much more interesting. In addition, we can spot hints of the pajama dressing, which looks particularly luxe about the dotted navy blue two piece composed of a tea-length flowing silk skirt and a matching top with a deep V neck.
In terms of the accessories used, the Thakoon fall/winter 2015-2016 rtw show brought chic leather platform ankle booties in bright tones and one or two classic handbags. The models’ hair was kept straight and sleek with a center part, while the makeup was soft and nude. Apparently, minimalism is going to be huge for the upcoming cold months as well!
