Prabal Gurung Fall/Winter 2013-2014 RTW – New York Fashion Week
New York Fashion Week is slowly setting the upcoming fall/ winter 2013-2014 fashion trends through a range of gorgeous collections created by world-renowned designers. Now, it’s high time to see what Prabal Gurung has prepared for us for the cold season to come. The new Prabal Gurung fall/winter 2013-2-14 collection radiates luxury and elegance and it sends its message to powerful and self-confident women, who know how to be in the center of attention without trying too hard. There was power in every single outfit presented, both in the casual-wear and eveningwear attire options.
In an interview with WWD, the designer reveals the source of inspiration behind the Prabal Gurung fall/winter 2013-2-14 collection, by saying that it all started when he was reading Time Magazine’s “The Best Inventions of 2012”, about the U.S. military testing body armor designed for women, since men’s come to be too big for most of female troops. “It came back to this idea of empowerment,” said Gurung. “Traditionally, we tend to look at men’s uniforms and then redesign, but this was very much focused on women.”
As a result, the Prabal Gurung fall/winter 2013-2-14 collection brings feminine and sexy army suits in stylish olive color and slimming, body-embracing proportions. The first look of the show was a combo of a peplum top and cargo pants, styled with gladiator boots, leather gloves and a harness. Then, we could see minimalist dresses, chunky knits, satin miniskirts, blouses with cutouts, blazers with epaulet, skinny fit pants, leather skirts and jackets, military coats and breathtaking evening gowns. The daywear looks were accessorized with daring thigh high leather boots with leg braces, gladiator boots and leather harnesses, sunglasses as well as fur scarves.
While during the daytime, the Prabal Gurung girl is strict and kind of harsh, in the evening she slips into the most ethereal dresses with draping and sexy cutouts baring backs, shoulders and sides. Together with the army inspired pieces, they definitely did make the Prabal Gurung fall/winter 2013-2-14 collection extremely feminine and sensual!
