Michael Kors Pre-Fall 2016 Collection
What happens when one mixes Audrey Hepburn’s classic and timeless style with Kate Moss’ heroin-chic allure? Michael Kors just decided to design a collection to see and to show us the result, adding a touch of Stella Tennant’s androgynous and gothic style to the Michael Kors pre-fall 2016 collection.
For his pre-fall 2016 collection, Kors allegedly took Audrey Hepburn’s ‘60s mini dress adorned with ostrich feathers and Kate Moss’ athletic racerback gown from the ‘90s as his main sources of inspiration, making it possible to give the typical American sportswear style a more glamorous and British chic attitude. His aim? Creating a perfectly diversified collection, where women could find any type of trans-seasonal outfit, from the more formal to the casual ones, yet without ever losing clear sophisticated and classics vibes.
“At this time of the year, the needs are so varied. You get to do everything from a mink coat to something someone will wear on a boat. You can have a cotton dress for a summer wedding, office clothes, the first coat to wear in September, something someone will wear on the red carpet in Cannes,” Kors explained.
The Michael Kors pre-fall 2016 collection also makes sure the brand’s contemporary and cosmopolitan audience can get both daytime and nighttime pieces, the latter of which alternate more conventionally classical silhouettes with three-dimensional surfaces and quirky necklines. For daytime, Kors gave what’s conventionally regarded as a brand new meaning to the preppy style, fighting against all that’s basic. In this regard, Art Deco floral motifs, cashmere pieces and pleated skirts combined with impeccably tailored coats radiate elegant urban refinement, elevating a sense of ease and comfort that, within a few pieces, gracefully get combined with ethereal dreamy pieces and fluffy fur embellishments.
The collection’s initial dreamy-like urban-inspired pieces quickly make way for edgy and less ethereal urban-inspired designs, clearly recalling the Hepburn-Moss style combination Kors wanted his collection to convey. Kors’ passion for juxtaposition also found its way throughout the feminine VS masculine theme, leading the collection to bring forth Chantilly slip-dresses in line with mannish oversized waistcoats and single-breasted coats, featuring half-matte/half-sleek fabrics that may remind some of you of Tennant’s unique style.
On the more feminine side, Kors opted for light baby pink pieces, which include strategic cut-outs, mermaid gowns and head-to-toe pink outfits. Such total pink outfits create a dynamic contrast with the total black pieces made of sheer fabrics, white ‘floralflage’ patterns and see-through plastic hems embellished with crystals that are some of the line-ups’ key pieces. If the girly outfits are perfect for Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Kors’ black mini dresses are perfect independent clubs-approved pieces worth investing in.
The Michael Kors pre-fall 2016 collection also put great emphasis on the alteration of drop-waist dresses and figure-enhancing high-waist dresses, making it possible for those who are looking for statement pieces to have plenty of possibilities to choose from.
