Instagram, one of the global social networks in our days, is constantly adding new features thus improving its service. Being one of the coolest fashion applications that inspire on a daily basis for trendy and one-of-a-kind looks, Instagram is now adding a new shopping feature to let the followers of certain It girls shop the pieces they wear in an instance.
Founded in 2010 by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, this free mobile app has proven to be a pretty convenient platform for taking photos and videos, applying diverse filters to the images and what is more important, sharing them with friends on different social networks. Being widely used by large masses, it could not but catch Facebook’s attention. Recently the largest social network has obtained Instagram for an insane price. The fact once more demonstrates the app’s crazy success. This is probably the main reason for regularly adding new functions in the application.
It was not long ago that Instagram added clickable links to the popular websites with the function “Learn more” about the company. And now the company has announced a new feature perfect for shopaholics, adding the “Shop Now” button. The announcement spread after Kevin Systrom, the Instagram CEO, had received the 2015 CFDA Media Award. Due to its parent company, Instagram will become a one-stop shopping destination with its potential advertisers. Through this new feature the users will get an opportunity to purchase advertised products directly from the application. The button will be placed at the bottom right side of the picture, and Instagram has already presented a couple of screenshots of the new feature. Moreover, the new Instagram shop button will not direct the user outside the app. The social network will open a mini browser for the consumer; and after purchasing in the browser he will be automatically redirected to the application.
This new marketing tool will definitely be useful both for advertisers and consumers. The fashion world will by all means appreciate the innovation and will apply this new advertising area to post images of their products. Right now Instagram is cooperating with a limited number of brands, among them being Levi’s, Banana Republic and Ben & Jerry’s. Still, in the future the number of brands is expected to grow, taking into account the fact of Instagram being a part of Facebook. Facebook advertisers will automatically become Instagram’s potential advertisers as well.
The reaction of the consumers will become clear only after the launch of the Instagram shop button. However, one thing is obvious – two opposite opinions will be formed: while some may consider the “Shop Now” button very convenient and perfect for making shopping easy, others will find it a deviation from the application’s original format.
The new tool will be tested in the next couple of days. While we still have no details about the shopping process on Instagram, we are more than sure that this will be a real godsend for fashion hunters. Let us hope that Instagram will manage to attract more and more brands, thus satisfying fashionable women’s whims.
