Giles Spring/Summer 2015 Collection – London Fashion Week
You never know what to expect from the famous British fashion house Giles, as the creative designer of the brand, Deacon Giles never lets you get to the point of his designs. The Giles spring/summer 2015 collection just showcased during London Fashion Week spring 2015 stays true to the quirky and “little bit sideways” style of the brand, delivering something different from what we have already managed to see during this fashion week season. It definitely captures Deacon’s traditional ideas of fashion, bringing some playful wild prints and creative shapes that can hardly be confused with any other collection. Still, what makes this line so beautiful is the maximum wearability and versatility of the designs.
“My dresses should be worn by young, cool girls just as much as by 55 to 60 year old women,” Deacon once stated talking about his slightly humorous and dark designs that often use pop culture references. This is true about the Giles spring/summer 2015 collection too, which brings iconic trends with an innovative approach. Thus, the show started with a range of striped pieces resembling the pajama style, mixing white and pink with thin liens of blue. The first look was exactly what a classic striped pajama could be, however, with the jacket being dressier and classier. Next, we saw the menswear inspired tuxedo jacket, coming elongated and without sleeves, and featuring the same patterns, bring an ideal daytime dress. Slightly more feminine and elegant were the coming two outfits put in stripes and in the same color palette.
After showing a couple of knitted sweater-dresses with imaginative prints, we saw what uniqueness could be called! It was a dusty pink mini dress with a massive black snake-like appliqué! The same technique was used for a couple of more monochrome looks, making them appear so bold and outstanding. Wild animal patterns mixed with geometric shapes in an artistic manner talked about the endless creativity of Deacon, embellishing a couple of mind-blowing princess gowns and maxi dresses, which any modern fashioniser would dream to have. There were also other animal motifs used, like the slightly funny oversized tiger paws in colorful shades put on a glittery white background.
Laser cuts and massive floral appliqués are other techniques Giles has used for his spring collection. Especially memorable was the laser cut metallic dress using oversized patchwork and some floral appliqués decorating the top part. As the show was about to end, the same pajama-style garments made an appearance, this time using lightweight fabrics and milder prints. Still, the jewel of the entire Giles spring/summer 2015 collection was the big full-skirt dress with artistically geometric patterns, which looked so dark, at the same time being utterly romantic and sophisticated.
All the looks demonstrated were finished off with colorful Oxford shoes, which made the outfits look slightly more relaxed, yet perfectly polished. Some models also wore oversized sunglasses and nothing else, this way keeping accessorizing to the minimum. Their slightly undone updos and ghosty makeup already did make a statement and there was no need to use massive jewelry pieces and bags to make these looks any more perfect!
The Giles spring/summer 2015 collection proves the immense talent of Deacon once again, when it comes to breaking the stereotypes and presenting something iconic and one-of-a-kind. You can also be that unique, wearing any of the garments presented!
