Elie Tahari Spring/Summer 2016 Collection – New York Fashion Week
The moment the first model hit the catwalk we realized that the Elie Tahari spring/summer 2016 collection is about the “Future Natural” – we saw change of mood. Trying to bring innovation to his brand’s style ideology, Tahari moved from his strict architectural silhouettes to embrace the effortless bohemian spirit this spring. This time the designer decided to bring the sun scorched desert to New York and it worked. We saw the futuristic woman go on an exploration and cross the desert; the result is genuine, sleek and feminine.
For his spring collection Tahari decided to stay on the safe side and opted for a rich and diverse color palette mainly consisting of classic, neutral shades. Throughout the show we saw pieces performed in light shades of camel, sand, ivory, cream, pearl, and darker as navy blue, smoke, tortilla and, of course, black. Monochrome style took the center stage, and instead playing with eye-popping prints, Tahari used a wide variety of garments and textures combining artisanal embroidery with rough looking linen, sheer lace, flowing chiffon, studded leather and, of course, fringed suede that is so boho. The entire line was sophisticated and fluid, his silhouettes – effortless and comfortable. The more dreamy bohemian outfits included flowing chiffon dresses with delicate embroidery and fringe details, all sheer maxi dresses, ivory skirts, billowing floral midi and maxi dresses with delicate fringe details, an Indian American inspired suede jacket with cascading fringe details and a matching geometric cut skirt. The more polished suave looks included maxi lace skirt with a matching white jacket, raw linen skirt with a jeweled tank, beautiful knit dress paired with a studded elegant looking leather jacket, fitting trousers and shorts paired with elegant jackets.
The highlight of the collection was the white cotton trench with lace detailing, which rocked Yves Saint Laurent muse Pat Cleveland accidentally that happened to be the designers official selection : “I love the trench that Pat Cleveland’s wearing in the middle there — there’s lace in the back. I love that piece,” he said.
Besides the effortlessly chic clothing pieces, our attention was stolen by the amazing gladiator lace-up sandals in different leathers. We have been seeing a lot of those sandals recently on the catwalks and apparently they will become the hype of the season. So if your considering getting a pair of gladiator sandals the chances are they will make a sensible fashion investment and will stay in trend for longer than a season or two.
As for the beauty look that complemented the outfits of the models, Tahari chose to keep up with the trend of minimalist makeup. Wear almost no make up, keep your skin clean and clear of foundation and try to maintain healthy glowing skin, and if you have problems with that you can fix minor imperfections with concealer. Wear your hair loose in effortless waves and be Tahari’s “future natural” woman suave and feminine. From beauty to fashion, Elie Tahari presented a trendy spring summer style perfect for women, who want to look sophisticated and effortless at the same time.
