Cushnie Et Ochs Spring/Summer 2016 Collection – New York Fashion Week
Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs wanted to create timeless clothes in a timeless color palette and featuring their signature chic and minimal tailoring for spring and apparently they found inspiration in the hip-hop culture of the ‘90s. As a result, the Cushnie Et Ochs spring/summer 2016 collection unveiled an array of perfectly polished and clean looks that focused on pretty pastel hues and their iconic cut-outs revealing the best assets of the models. Having been founded only in 2008, the brand has managed to gain a big army of followers becoming a red carpet favorite and a Cushnie et Ochs design can hardly be confounded with any other brand due to the figure-enhancing clean shapes and curious cut-outs. The spring 2016 lineup stays true to the brand’s ideology, while delivering fresh and practical pieces you can just slip into and walk out the door looking classy, self-confident and sexy.
The first thing that catches the eye in the collection is the mild color palette composed of pastel peach hues, timeless blacks and whites, pretty lilacs, mint greens and muted yellows. The designer duo ditched any complex prints and patterns, instead embracing effortless minimalism offering monochrome pieces that put the focus on the unique shapes and the utilitarian style with subtle hints of military fashion. Metallic buttons used here and there, draping, sexy slits and cut-outs revealing lots of skin without looking vulgar are other design techniques the designers have utilized to come up with these versatile and elegant pieces, which are quite chameleonic when it comes to donning them on different occasions. You can easily transfer those dresses, jumpsuits and two-piece sets from day to night and vice versa, creating memorable looks for office wear or date nights.
The Cushnie Et Ochs spring 2016 show kicked off bringing the pastel peach looks, particularly the bold cut-out jumpsuit, the two tight dresses cut at the below the knee length and the evening number using a high side slit and draping revealing the golden chain necklace underneath. This range of pieces was followed by the crisp white designs, wherein we saw stylish tuxedo-dresses with deep V-necks, strapless dresses with side slits, jumpsuits and pants suits, but also an elegant swimwear design you’ll want to wear to attend luxe pool parties. The pants unveiled were mostly baggy, yet elegant, while the silhouettes of the dresses managed to stay demure and feminine despite the big amount of flashed skin.
Diversity was present at the show in terms of the materials used as well, as besides the classic fabrication, we also saw edgy black leather and denim used for the form-fit dresses, jumpsuits, two-pieces and sexy bodysuits that were styled with the same heeled shoes used for the rest of the looks, but also flirty bandanas. Off-the-shoulder touches, midriff-exposing crop tops and subtle hints of peplum were other major trends the brand brings back for the upcoming spring.
Perfectly mixing tough black leather looks with Easter-color ladylike staples, the Cushnie et Ochs spring 2016 RTW collection adds a fresh breath to the brand’s signature style and we surely applaud the sisters for the new way of thinking fashion.
