Bella Hadid and Nike Celebrate 45 Years of the Nike Cortez
Bella Hadid is definitely the ultimate IT girl. She is one of the most popular and in-demand models at the moment. The young model continues her collaboration with Nike and stars in their latest campaign. This time they celebrate the 45th anniversary of the legendary Nike Cortez sneakers. Bella, with her unique style, is one of the biggest fashion influencers today. So if you see your fashion icon wearing a cool pair of sneakers, you are probably going to want them too.
The Cortez sneakers made their debut in 1972. They are designed by Bill Bowerman, who is Nike’s co-founder. After their great success, the female version of the sneakers — Senorita Cortez — was released two years later. These are the same shoes that Forrest Gump wore in the eponymous movie in 1994.
The photoshoot recreates a picture that dates from the 1970s. The legendary picture shows Farrah Fawcett wearing the Cortez sneakers while skateboarding. The photo was taken during the filming of “Charlie’s Angels”. Bella is dressed in Nike from head to toe. She has a red sports bra on, and a pair of distressed bell jeans with the “Just Do It” logo peeking up from them.
“This exact shoot is an old-school homage to the original Cortez shoe. I think the best part about today is just to being able to have fun and be active,” the young model said about the shoot. “Usually, it’s very ‘Stand there and show off the clothes’. Right now, it’s more ‘You have to get dirty in a pair of Nikes, you have to be able to work and run and do fun stuff.’ That’s what’s making today so fun.”
At only 20 years old, Bella has an impressive resume in the fashion industry. From being Dior’s face, the new star of Bulgari’s perfume, and being one of the best dressed at the Cannes Film Festival, many brands would like to score her as their signature face. She landed the deal with Nike in November and she has been seen wearing the Nike Cortez on several occasions.
“Growing up, Nike was pretty much all that I wore. I think my love for Nike properly started at the beginning of high school and I would only wear my Air Force Ones. I had them in every single color, they were my favorite thing. That was where my obsession grew from and now I’m here on the set!” – Bella added.
We are only days away from when all of the Hadid fans out there are going to go crazy over the new Nikes. The announced release date is June 1, and they will cost $90. The sneakers will be available in their original white, blue and red color. Fans also expect more of the legendary Cortez. Rumors say that Nike might release more colors this summer.
