Antonio Marras Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection – Milan Fashion Week

Inspirations for top designers can be found in different places, falling into multiple categories. The Antonio Marras fall/winter 2015-2016 collection is inspired by fashion icon Benedetta Barzini, a woman he describes as being an icon of beauty as well as style, one full of charm and mysteries at all times. A designer’s friends can most certainly serve as one of the best muses, particularly when they are eccentrics and limitless in their imaginations. In this case, Benedetta Barzini is revered as a living legend of fashion.

Just as in his previous collections, Marras has brought his focus down onto prints along with gorgeous embroidery to adorn the dresses, coats and gilets that are worn out onto the Milan Fashion Week runway. It is also nice to see the use of damask in the line-up, for the modern pictorial look contrasts with plaster blow-up decorations. Mixing it all up brings to light the prints that make up the Antonio Marras fall/winter 2015-2016 collection that we newly watched on the catwalk. The coats, on the other hand, have a loose silhouette that is reminiscent of 18th century redingotes, using patches of different fabrics in the same color.

Eccentric defines the whole of the collection, but we have to admire the charming nature of so many of these pieces, including the pyjama-like first ensemble that is comprised of a sleeveless large lapel, black floral embroidery across one side and down the body, tied to one side like a robe; it also includes the tanzanite colored cuffed pants in a loose tailoring, cropped at the ankle, while the feet are clad in open toe moccasin type slippers in appears. Following this piece is a place on the latest trends, with the plunging V neckline replaced with a swooping round one down to the abdomen; it might help not to have ample breasts it seems here since the model boasts a pretty flat chest.

The colors found among the collection include black with tanzanite, color blocks of scarlet and maroon, along with beige, grey and olive, while we see dotting of pale pinks and purples. While so many of the pieces are beyond lovely, a few do stick out; this includes a black and white plaster blow-up patterning on a dress with black velvet along the back and flapping about the legs because of the slits, though the shy rain boots underneath a quite masculine in looks and not quite what we would have picked to match the outfit. The hair looks really nice with its shiny gloss and pin straight fall down the back, teased and raised at the back for the crown to give it a half up and half down ‘do.
